Now since I got your attention...
I was talking to one of the workers who I work with and he found out that T-mobile will slow down or stop expanding the 3G coverage because of the economy.
I was wondering if this is true?
When I think about it, there might be some truth to it because ever since T-mobile roll out 3G coverage in October and November, we rarely hear anymore news about more cities having 3G coverage.

I'm sure they'll keep expanding, however I wouldn't be surprised if the rate at which they were expanding slowed down.

I've been told from several that a number of large cities will be getting 3g in mid-2009. June has always been the target date and it sounds like they are still on target for that. I only care about my city though... and EDGE seems plenty fast so no worries for me.

Bunk!
You should know better folks then to trust ONE employee for this info.
TMO like other carriers has to deploy on the major market spectrum they bid in a timely manner. A lot of the infrastructure purchases for 3G deployment have already been done. What may slow is the unannounced additional phases of 3G deployment in smaller markets. This would be the same though as what all carriers would do.

When it happens, it'll happen.
I'm sure they don't want to put a certain date, only to have it be postponed and expectations turn into disappointment.

I had a t-mobile rep tell me we are supposed to have 3G here in Jax this month. However, I don't much stock in what the reps say, it seems like they know less than we do.

Does anyone know if there is a page where T-Mobile has a list of planned cities for 3G launches?

The T-Mobile reps told me we'd have 3G in Denver within a week or so (from when I called, month and a half ago) and they were right. So you might be getting some 3G'y goodness soon!

Wow, I hope so. Will keep my fingers crossed because it sure would be nice.

Yeah, I wouldn't take to much stock into rumors. A story like that would be big news and hard to keep quiet.
Slowing is possible, but all together? It's not likely.
3G is a double edged sword.. its a bit faster, but it blows through your battery having it on.
So much so, that I usually stay on EDGE in 3G cities, as I'd rather the battery not die on me, than have the little bit of extra data speed

This is why I left TMO. I'm in Columbus Ohio, one of the larger US Cities, and much larger than some cities that actually have 3G, and they have no clue with they are getting it here, or anywhere else in the state.
VZW is a crappy company, but they price matched and I get 1XEV rev A here in Ohio.

I live in Milwaukee. Edge here seems extremely similar to the 3G I get when I drive down to Chicago every Thursday. Sad, really. I was hoping it would be dramatic. That being said, my WIFI does not really impress me that much. It seems like Edge really pushes what our browsers are capable of with the hardware behind them. I could be way off on that but I continue to come to that conclusion.

I live in the in the UK and speeds here for me are terrible, I dip in and out of 3G all the time but never seem to have a strong signal for it. Other than that I have to rely on standard speeds or wireless.

I'd like for T-Mobile to actually roll out EDGE where I live :(

WOW! Never noticed you were in Jax! That's three I know of; myself, yourself, and that one guy working the Regency store... uh... kaziko, I think it is?
I put zero stock in what a telephone rep says, 50% stock in what a technician says. I've worked both jobs (just not with T-Mo), and the phone reps are always in on the all-workers meetings but in the half-of-the-workers meetings, management usually changes their plans. Then the techs have that knowledge, and inform the masses when asked, and then management half the time goes and changes plans again.
The T-Mo website, last I checked anyway, didn't show J-ville being anywhere in the 3G plans of the future. I figure, AT&T has 3G here; T-Mo will follow to remain competitive. It's just a matter of when.

It would be nice to have just a little automatic 3G ON feature that you wouldn't have to go into settings to change. Just have it pop a 3G speedbomb on browser loads that take e.g. longer than 3 seconds. That way you get the speed only when you obviously need it, and not for piddly stuff like e-mail updates, and you don't have to hunt your way through settings menues to get to it...

I saw one before on their site, but I can't seem to find it now. I don't remember if I googled it with "site:t-mobile.com" as the last keyword or if I used T-Mo's own web search... But nah, can't find it now... You might try the T-Mo forums.... they may know...

Maybe connected with the rumour that someone is testing 4G somewhere?
I wouldn't exactly call it "a little bit" of speed. The difference between 3G and EDGE is substantial.

Besides confirming in an almost official manner the launch of G2 in 2009, Neville also announced that T-Mobile (http://news.softpedia.com/news/T-Mobile-Launches-HTC-Shadow-and-Nokia-7510-Today-103127.shtml) plans to extend the reach of its 3G network in the following 11 months, another aspect that would bring joy to its subscribers.
“We are going to be more aggressive in 2009 than originally planned. In fact, we are looking to double our 3G reach in 2009,” he stated in the interview (http://www.fiercewireless.com/story/t-mobiles-neville-ray-we-will-have-more-g-series-phones-2009/2009-01-29?utm_medium=nl&utm_source=internal&cmp-id=EMC-NL-FW&dest=FW)....
