Ok heres taking the high road...
Sprint/Nextel/Verizon/Altel=CDMA Frequencies
ATT/T-Mobile=GSM Frequencies
A G1 will NOT work on Sprint's network.

Does sprint use a standard sim card? If so, i'd think it would work like any other provider once its unlocked. But truthfully I have no knowledge about this sort of thing.

Sprint's iDen network[i.e: Nextel] uses a sim card but, alone uses a certain frequency/technology/radio. Ordinary Sprint phones do not use a SIM card, but rather a ESN. An electronic serial number. A G1 will not work with Sprint because the G1 only uses GSM frequencies/radio, not Sprint's CDMA frequencies/radio.
It's easily understanable if you think about in terms of automobiles.
Sprint/Verzion=Diesel Gas to run[CDMA]
T-Mo/AT&T=Normal Gas to run[GSM]
Think of the type of gas[frequency] needed to make each car[phone] run.

Lol! I'm not sure what carrier I'd equate bio-fuel to. Maybe "Net10" :D

I'd say Metro PCS is the BioFuel of the cellular world.
