anyone want to explain to me how this works.
I get the boot up the phone with camera and power plug it in hit back, voila fastboot!
then any next step I read seems to be compile the source! voila i kind of did that! I got somewhere toward the end and got a command not found line and I gave up!
but nowhere do I see a once you have the source compiled and your phone plugged in with the fastboot screen you ___________, seriously? does anyone have a fastboot for dummies tutorial, or actually in my case a fastboot for super dummies?

there's also this one. but I think I need a more in depth tutorial to what needs to be installed, how and such. because this page is all I have found to go by, and it does not compute in my tiny tiny brain

I get to the last part of this and file not found and I don't know where to go from there
Initializing a Repo client
Create an empty directory to hold your working files:
$ mkdir mydroid
$ cd mydroid
Run repo init to bring down the latest version of Repo with all its most recent bug fixes. You must specify a URL for the manifest:
$ repo init -u git://android.git.kernel.org/platform/manifest.git

yeah he's not currently online. I'm just putting it out there. so maybe one day I'll be able to change my bootloader image!!! which really isn't to big of deal considering how little I turn my phone off, but I'd like to put something with my contact info up on it just in case, ya know!

And this is all a massive problem because you are running in 64bit?

no I'm not running in 64 bit. its plain ole 32.
well since you're here birdo let me catch you up on where I'm at since we last talked.
I never could get the windows android usb drivers to install because well it involves a deity and his dislike for me I suspect. but then I got a crazy idea, that I could still use jf's convert program in windows, and reach through linux into my windows account and copy it over, which I did successfully (proper byte size and all) so then I tried to follow the rest of the linux commands for it, realized that I needed fastboot compiled everything (maybe successfully?) got to the above mentioned line and blammo I'm at another deadend.
tell me if anyof that needs clarifying?

Consty, That stupid ass android usb driver.zip file you keep trying to use is crap. Go download the android sdk and get the usb driver outa there. run the add new hardware wizard. direct the wizard to install the driver from within the android sdk folder....

what do you mean by within the folder.
i can only get as far as the android sdk/android usb folder then click install next which always tells me...
windows was unable to install your phone
windows could not find driver software for your phone
if you know the manufacture of your device you can visit the support section for driver software.

but if for some reason it doesn't shouldn't consty be able to take the 3 files from the usb driver folder and drop them in the windows\system32 (or is it the \system folder?)folder and then maybe refresh the device manager? not too sure i don't use vista

the only thing I've found close to resolving this problem is this
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1039
I tried the part about replacing the file, same problem.
I even tried deleting those other files, but the one I could find, the first one, would not delete, and I couldn't find the others (needless I didn't look to hard after not being able to delete the other.)

get fastboot and all other things to root in just one zip at how to unlock and root nexus (http://digitalpbk.com/nexus-s/how-to-root-nexus-s-windows), The drivers and utilities should work for any other phone tooo.
