Mobile site

Just a suggestion, a mobile site formatted to work with out G1 screens would be awesome. Any plans or thoughts on implementing this?

why do you need a mobile version?

the only thing mobile versions are good for are sites with a lot of flash, as it's not supported, yet.

As a former web guy, I disagree. One of the major no-nos in basic web design is not to make the user have to scroll in two dimensions (horizontally and vertically) in order to view a page. The G1's browser does a pretty good job at avoiding this for single columns of text, but it's still suboptimal when viewing some multi-column sites that make you scroll to see everything.

Designing a page for the G1 is not like designing one to be viewed on a BlackBerry since the G1 is more capable, but there are still annoyances in traditional website layouts that make browsing on the G1 more difficult than it needs to be.

I haven't tried the mobile style on here yet so I can't comment on how appropriate it is for a G1. [EDIT: just tried it, and when using that style I might as well be using a BlackBerry with it; not taking advantage of the G1's browser at all]

Well, if you want to scroll everywhere and download everything on an EDGE or 3g connection and scroll everywhere and then have a hard time posting then it's ok.

What I meant was an AC site meant to fit in the G1's screen(fully) Like the facebook site for Iphone, if you notice it is not your traditional mobile site(they have one like that too).

For forums I rather have the mobile versions since it's easier to navigate. The one above is more for regular phones and blackberries but I rather use that then the regular site from my G1.

I agree 100%. This site should really have a mobile version that isn't a WAP version. The mobile version here is a text-only left-justified thing that I would never use. A pared-down, designed version that scales to the browser and displays text in an appropriate size, and has a few features would be a WONDERFUL addition. Perfect example: Visit gmail or google reader on your phone. --Or as has been pointed out, x.facebook.com (although m.facebook.com is much more full-featured for some reason).
