I have been getting really slow 3G service in London. It takes ages to open some web pages, making blogging almost impossible. Anyone else having similar problems?

Hey,

No I've been fine. I'm mainly based in W1 so different antenna no doubt. Are you central etc?

I am on London Wall. Never a good connection. Well, even with 3G + 3/4 bars it is slow. Maybe a problem with my handset, or my connection? Should they all be equal?

Right quick way to test this . . . Give me a secs count to load the android community front page where your stood. I'll do the same. That way I know how long your talking about . . . Mine seems to take about 40 secs for a full load, about 22 for a content readable load. I would say this is about ave for me. What's yours?

Perhaps im over or under estimating 3g speed. Also what apps do you run? Anything that might be slowing down your 3g access at times? Hold down the home key for a few secs to list the last five programs you opened. If you have root then get it to tell you what's running programs wise.

Its grim up north I'm lucky if I get a standard signal most of the time never mind 3G. There is however a speed test app on the market, I dont know hoe reliable it is but it works (well it gives you a speed) you could at least compare using that, might make your life easier.

I appear to be stuck on G right now. Downloads Xtremelabs Speedtest, results are shocking: Download 25.3kbits/s and upload 9.3knots/s

Will try again when 3G decides to come online.

I had a call back from t-mobile. They suggested that I switch to 2G if possible as the 3G network gets congested at lunchtime.

Very very upsetting. I bought the G1 specifically to use 3G at lunchtime, to update my websites. Now I am told that 2G is probably faster. Why did I bother with this 460 quid contract? Shocking. Feel totally ripped off.

Will write a very anti-tmobile blog and then complain to the highest level.

Told in shop that I was in an excellent coverage area. Now told that it is congested. Funny how they failed to tell me that cogestion was a problem.

I sat in the park today and had EXCELLENT 3G connection. Must be the coffee shop I was going to was tucked away under too many tall buildings full of people with iPhones!
