As noted in a different thread, my contract with T-mobile expired and I was due for an upgrade.

I went on their site to browse for phones: http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/phones/?direct=true

I really wanted to get the Blackberry Flip and seeing that it went for $50 after the rebate, I went down to my local authorized dealer during my break. I was just about to pick one up when he told me that I was not eligible for the rebate since I did not have a data plan. He told me I needed a data plan to qualify for the rebate.

I thought he was yanking my chain so I left and called T-mobile. The agent I spoke with had no idea of any special requirements but said he would look into it. After 3 minutes of being on hold, he noted that, yes, there is indeed a requirement of a data plan.

However, when you're about to "submit your order" for a phone upgrade on the T-mobile website, they make no mention of this rebate requirement.

So just a heads up for those who were not aware.

Keep the data plan for a month and then cancel it.

actually, for those who wish on upgrading, they won't be able to use the link provided. for upgrades, they would have to log in, and go to "upgrade phone". then they are brought to a page like this where there is no mention of such terms.

but i appreciate your response since it is indeed stated on another link (which happened to the very one i provided)
