I have gotten a few request from some to people to root their G1s after seeing mines. So, my question to you guys is how much would you charge to root someones G1 thats if you would charge anything?

Not to much, if it's one or two friends I wouldn't charge. If it's high demand I would just do a little fee.

As for the above poster, a lot of people charge for things they didn't invent/innovate. I would say most anybody. i make an app and charge for it, I don't pay Java any royalties. If u have the talent and the demand, I would charge. But not something like 40 bucks to a friend.

A beer would be good enough for me to root a g1 :)

Yea i feel you and i was thinkin along those lines too, seeing as how every cd/dvd man charges for bootlegs and as for payment i was thinking round the lines of a $20 bottle of 1800 tequila(favorite:D)

people charge from other people's hard work all the time.... i fix pc's for my fellow church members all the time and they pay me.

when a plumber comes out to fix your toilet you pay him and he didnt invent the toilet of the tools he used to fix it.

you pay people for the labor they are doing for you. i wouldnt charge to root some1's phone but if i did they have an option of paying or learning how to do it them self.

just like the plumber... you can either pay him or learn how to do it yourself...

he is not profiting off anyone else's work.

he is being paid labor to do the work. I think there is a difference.

the software he is using is free. If he was pirating it, then that would be different.

My first thought is... whatever "fee" you charge, make sure it is worth it... because from THAT moment on... when you first touch their phone, you become their GO TO G1 Tech.... they will call you for every. single. issue.... problem.... or annoyance.

Change your phone number. Move. Become a travelling G1 Rooter. Just never let them find you.

I did it for my buddy and hes still on RC30 cause he hasn't had time to stop by. Another guy did pay me to root his phone and I gave him a few sites that I browse and he seems to be calling me less. He just moved apps over to his sd so I'm sure hes gonna be okay.
