I am sure with the implementation of paid apps some of you may be reluctant to buy the apps because sometimes the cost can be high and the app may not be up to your standards. I had the chance to try the Air Hockey app in the Android Market and I have to say the .99 cent price tag is worth every penny.

The app starts very nicely and has a decent User Interface, although it may not be super flashy but it gets the job done! You are presented with three choices upon start up of the app. You can choose from a one player game, a bonus two player game, and an updates feature which allows the user to find updates for the app. You are directed to the website for updates and much more!

Features:

Easy touch screen control.

Play against a computer-controlled opponent that gradually gets tougher as you get better.

Every time you win, your "level" gets upgraded so you can compare your progress with friends.

Super smooth graphics.

Great realistic air hockey sounds._______________________________________

I want to point out that the two player option does not work correctly due to the multi-touch capabilities of the G1 locked out. Future Android devices with multi-touch will correct this issue in the future, that is if Google unlocks the option to use multi-touch. That seems to be the only gripe from current users about this app in the market comments for it. If two people were playing the two player mode, one user would have to take their finger off of the screen to enable the other user to play on their side. This would leave their goal open and could allow the other user to get points very easy!

Once the type of game is selected, either the one player or two player game, the users are prompted to choose their type of game. They can then choose single game, best of three, best of five, and best of seven. There is also an option to choose the speed of the puck and an option to choose if there is sound for the game. If the check mark is not checked the game will have no sound, so the game is set as no sound for its default.

The game was a tiny bit confusing at first because the white paddle to play the game was not visible until I put my finger on the screen and it disappears when I took my finger off of the screen. I know this keeps people from cheating by leaving the paddle by their goal so the computer player cannot score any points easily. I found on several occasions that once the puck gets towards the bottom of the screen my finger got in the way and I inadvertently push the puck backwards into my goal. The way around this was to take my finger off of the screen and put my finger back on the screen under the puck in order to keep my opponent from scoring easy points! I could also slide out the screen and play the game in landscape mode, yet there is no use of the accelerometer to do it without sliding out the screen. I also noticed that it was pretty hard to play one handed with my thumb so I had to hold the phone with one hand and use my pointer finger on my other hand to play, which was much better.

This air hockey game is a simple and wonderful way to spend some time if bored and looking for a challenge. As the game progresses and the person playing gets better, the computer player gets more aggressive and is more efficient.
This keeps the game from getting really old fast and keeps the challenge going. The noises, look and feel of everything reminded me of the real thing. The movement is very fluid, like on a real air hockey table, and even looks just like one in the arcade!

I would recommend this game to anyone because it is fun, challenging, and realistic. With this price tag of a mere .99 cents, how could you go wrong. Here are the pros and cons of this air hockey game:

Pros:

Great price!

Realistic sounds.

Realistic look and feel.

There is a tell a friend feature.

There is a resume game feature if you close out early on purpose or on accident.

Sliding the screen out makes the game easier to play in landscape mode, which solves the problem of your finger getting in the way.

Cons:

This game is really only playable with the pointer finger which makes it hard to play one handed.

Paddle is not visible when NOT touching the screen.

Two player mode is unusable because of no multi-touch capabilities for Android as of now.

Hard to see puck under finger which could give the computer player easy points!

No use of the accelerometer to automatically change to landscape version of game, user has to slide out the screen for this to work.

Yeah dude I LOVE that game. DEFINITELY WORTH THE CHEAP PRICE!

I wish he would make it so you could see the paddle all the time though. It would make gameplay easier.

I hope that devs start to write their apps and games with modded G1s in mind. JF's RC33 is multi-touch compatible but so far the only full app that takes advantage of it, that I have seen, is the modified stock browser. I'm surprised that no one else has made any apps that utilizes the MT.

I loved this game and i thought implementing 2 players was a mistake. Knew that would be one of the only knocks on it. Dev is super cool as well.
