Originally named "Slide Unlocker", new name of this popluar iphone like app labed "Lock 2.0" brings to the android G1 platform an app that makes you G1 have a lock screen just like the revolunationy phone iphone.
The next version of what used to be called "Slide Unlocker". It's almost a complete rewrite from 1.x with major stability improvement. It now supports background change, customizable skin, battery charge icons
Battery icon will show when you charge.
I made this for myself b/c I like the iphone. There's donate version

Features:
- Add custom backgrounds to the Lock screen
- Customizedable skins / downloaded pre-made ones from website
- Actual battery charger icon works while charging / also custom battery icon downloads
Cons:
- No sound support to when you slide to unlock
- Doesn't override the regular lock screen.
- Doesn't show notification bar while in lock screen mode.
Overall, its a pretty neat app to have and it does the job, just makes you use double the effort to unlock your G1 lol, but if you love the iphone look and feel and want some of the features ported to the Android G1 then this app is for you.

I think its pretty cool, tho I LOATHE the "free version" pop up you get every time you unlock it. Its ludicrous to make people pay for something like a slide unlocker. Developers really need to figure out what's worth paying for.

well, developers do take alot of their time to sit down and write out and design this app and then release it to the public so i mean all their hardwork should be paid off with a few dollars for the app. just put your self in their situation would you wanna work 2-3 weeks on a app and get nothing back?

Pretty cool. I like this much better than the menu button, although I agree with Arab regarding the popups.
Also, when installing skins from the sd card, the app doesn't recognize Astro as a file manager.

I think the app is neat. Looks cool, and if you are annoyed by the free version, the price is reasonable. And allowing it to be themeable by the community is always a plus in my book. People love to personalize their stuff. Great work.

I noticed the service does not start automatically on reboot. Why is this? I think there should be an option to enable autostart. By not having it autostart on reboot, there is a good chance people will forget to turn it on. After forgetting enough times, they may not want to use it or donate, because they never remember to use it. Apps like this should not be a hassle to use, they should make life easier.

What do you mean that you don't have to use the menu button? I still do.
Do you have the free or donate version?
I installed the free version to check it out. Once my screen goes into time out mode, I still have to hit the menu button to get to the Lock 2.0 screen. Then I slide the lock and I'm on my home screen. Also I'm not getting any ads, just a small icon that flashes and says "free version". Am I missing something?

Yeah you still have to use the menu button. Also, the popup I notice is once you see the lock screen, a quick little text bubble appears that says free version. Plus you have the icon in the notification bar that asks you to donate.

Yes i would, and so do thousand of others.
Just dont buy the products, they will get the message. Fed up of all the greedy lite/pro version crap, and asking to update, then you have to pay for the same thing. These people have a warped sense of morality. Not something i would be pleased with myself for doing.

To tell a person to “think” about his/her thoughts before posting is silly. Everyone is (and should) be entitled to his/her respective feelings AND be entitled to share ‘em.
I for one agree that some of these paid apps are silly….silly because they’re paid apps!!
I play on a mod platform under a very popular RPG game…the builder, who I know, has invested over 4 years into this mod and HE doesn’t get paid anything! Nada! And it’s all his creation.
Look, everyone wants to make money. But at the same time, come on. Charging even a dollar for say, a fart app, is ****ing ridiculous. What’s also a bit ridiculous is being told to think before post.
facelessuser
03-01-2009, 07:55 PM
People can charge what they want, even for a fart app. Supply and demand. People keep buying, keep selling dollar fart apps. I'm not going to buy one, but I think they have a right to sell if they want. That is the beauty of the android market.
Personally, I agree that everyone should be allowed to express their opions, but people should always think before they post/speak. To many people say things they regret, or is just plain ridiculous because they react without thinking.
DrVeronica
03-01-2009, 08:11 PM
Sure they can charge what they want...I'm not here to tell 'em what and how much...I just refuse to make any purchases without giving it thought.
And really, does anyone know if so-and-so DIDN'T think before speaking/posting? Maybe he DID, and he posted what he felt.
People need to relax. Just because someone doesn't agree with you, doesn't mean that THAT person didn't think before stating!!

Okay, i am an android developer myself and I am really disgusted by some people bitching about needing to pay a buck or 2 for an app they use (and like to use). Like one of the previous posters said, it's just a market with supplies and demands, if you dont like the price or cant afford it, you are completely free to vote with your dollar. JUST DONT DOWNLOAD THE APP! The developer created the app and he has every right to do whatever he wants with it.
You are paying for quality and not to mention the developers' work. If everyone only wants to get freebies and never give anything back, you are basically destroying the community. If nobody pays for apps, most developers will not take the time to develop quality apps. That's a lose lose game that you dont want to pay. You dont go to a movie and then bitch about not getting free dinner on your way out do you?
Beside, i think this app is very fairly priced. It's $1.5 for god sake, what the hell do you want for a buck and a half?
2pfjsb
03-01-2009, 08:42 PM
just a few more thoughts, the 'free version' popup is just like a ad on websites like google and facebook, I dont hear anybody bitching about ads on websites then why should you bitch about small ads in apps?
DrVeronica
03-01-2009, 08:59 PM
People bitch all the time.
And *that's* a right as well!! lol
Look, I'm a student doctor, and one of the things that people just LOVE to complain about is the cost of xyz...as if *I* even personally control the cost of procedures/materials!!
Some people like free things...some people think they're "entitled"...what ya gonna do?

its not a bad app. yeah the screen being lock during a call is a bit of an issue but im sure that can be easily sorted out ! also another thing i dont fancy is the iPod style Bar on the top of the lockscreen, i think id rather prefer it to just have the Android Notification bar up top to keep it all looking proper :D
apart from that the app is really good and im using it right now :D
Better than the pattern function imo (damn you apple!).
It's a donation, worth it imo.

Not sure what the problem is; I would email the dev. A workaround is to uninstall from the application manager and then reinstall from the market.

I had this happen only once. Rebooted the phone and all was good again. Shouldn't happen, but as phone operating systems and applications get more complex, a reboot every now and then isn't so bad. Reboots always take care of those memory leaks and such. I'm sure it will get more stable as time goes on.

I hate that you have the icon in the notification bar. I don't have a credit card so I don't have a way to donate/purchase apps.
If I could donate, I would to whoever made screen crack first, only because he made donating 100% optional.
This is open source, being greedy or needing to be paid to write apps is not what this is supposed to be about.

i just bought the donated version and its wonderful i love how it removes and overrides the default menu lock screen
its worth it!
Great update, love how he's managed to remvove screen lock!
I still have one bug...
Whenever I change Skins, Lock 2.0 takes me to the Manage Skins screen, and I have to tap Home to get to the home screen!
If I reboot the G1, it then works properly... taking me from the Lock 2.0 screen, after swiping, straight to the Home screen, but it's a little bit of a hassle to have to reboot my G1 every time I reset my Skin, to get it to work correctly.
Anyone else experiencing this problem?

This is a cool emulator app and the developer seems to have put a lot of time and effort into this. However, it would be really awesome if he could develop some sort of alternative signature look for the Android unlock screen. Something just as graphically pleasing and innovative as the Iphone unlocker. It would be the 1st of its kind and give G1 users some exclusivity. Seeing how there isn't much visual flare to this phone as is, if executed well its certainly something myself and many others would pay for.

After rooting my phone today, I passed over reinstalling the free version of this app, as I was tired of two lock screens. Imagine my surprise when I find out that the donate version now overrides the default lock screen? I quickly went to purchase that version. And I love that ability, I miss S2U2 from my WM phone, so this is a great replacement.
My wish, however, would be to incorporate the Android notification bar in an aesthetically pleasing way.
One bug I've come across, hitting back from the Set Skins page will unlock the phone, instead of bringing you back to the lock screen.
The app also seems a little slow to make the lock screen appear from sleep. Hopefully future versions will optimize this process for speed increases.

I have this and dxtop both installed on my phone. When pressing home after installing Lock 2.0 it says to use HOME as default, and not to use "this" as default, saying "you have been warned." Is it referring to dxtop? If so, why? Any plans to make the two jive if this is the case? I'd probably just refund this if there aren't any.

I have realized that using Lock 2.0 does NOT allow my SMS alerts/reminders to work!!!!
That totally ruins my being able to use this app!!!!
But, I haven't deleted it, yet... just disabled it! This issue is something that needs to be addressed! SMS PopUp and ChompSMS and Missed Reminder must work with this app if you expect a lot of people to use it!
As of now I wish I could get a refund as I will NOT use this app. I just pray that it will be updated!
But, on a positive note - I do love the default screen and the battery charging screen.

I think recognizing taps would require the phone to stay awake and not sleep. When the phone sleeps, only the physical buttons generate a wake command for the phone, as they're much more difficult to push accidentally (well, except the volume buttons). Keeping the screen touch detection on would be a huge waste of the battery.

How about different gestures other than just the slide?
It didn't seem to play well with the native alarm clock either.

somebody help! I have already been to their google group website and haven't found the answer there. I downloaded some skins onto my computer and then onto my sd card. I installed OI file manager and Unzip. I first tried to add the zipped file as a skin but it said "skin install failed." Then I unzipped and tried adding the folder but that doesn't work either. It said "Access_denied." What am I doing wrong? I noticed there was a "slide-unlocker" folder and even tried moving it to there, but nothing seems to work. Feedback, please. Thanks!

Do not unzip the skin. Put zip on you sd card. Open lock 2.0. Select add skin from sd card. Select zip in oi manager and it will load.

Yeah your right.

An android app cannot keep the phone awake unless it has wake lock permission. This app does not have that permission (you can see the permission list when you install the app). so your phone is definitely sleeping.
After installing the newest version, my G1 went straight to Lock 2.0, not displaying the Android Menu Lock screen.
Now, for some reason, it keeps bringing up the standard Menu Lock screen, requiring me to press Menu twice!
Weird... anyone else experience this problem?
Also, when it WAS working, if I implemented the passcode, I'd have to swipe once to get to the passcode screen, enter the pass code, and then swipe again. Seemed like an extra swipe... entering the correct code should take you to the Home Screen, in my opinion...

I never claimed it was awake.
All I said was with the application running (being the only new one I have installed) I have noticed my battery was shot. After uninstalling, it is back to normal. I was simply asking if anyone else had noticed.

Battery life does seem a little more poor since using this app. If I constantly was a heavy user of the phone throughout the day, it may be a problem. Most days, I make it all day before needing to charge, but if i'm listening to music, I may not.

It actually does work with notifications. If you reboot, you should get notifications back, though eventually you will loose them again. It appears, this problem is not just specific with Lock 2.0, but I admit, it seems to be exposed more readily in Lock 2.0 ( I do think this needs fixing). You can read even in the about dialog of the Missed Call app, and it talks about how Android sometimes kills the notification service...or something to that effect. The best advice is to reboot when this happens or don't use if the dev can't figure out or until the dev does figures out a way to make this not happen, if possible.

Good call. I rebooted my phone and it was fine. If there was a way to make it so that doesn't happen, this would be perfect. As far as I know, I've never had this problem before Lock 2.0.

I installed the free version yesterday. Everything seems to work as indiciated, except...
Once my phone goes to sleep, it will wake back up after about a minute, and stay awake on the lock screen. This does not happen if I disable the background service and use the regular pattern lock.
Once the phone wakes up, it refuses to go back to sleep until I hit the power button or unlock the phone (using lock) and let it time back out. If its awake (screen powered up) it kills the battery pretty fast.
I can't use this (or get the paid version) without this being addressed.

New update provides the standard notification bar while on the lock screen...
I have not noticed any problems with alerts, everything has worked fine for me...I downloaded the paid version when he got rid of the default lock menu...3-4 days ago.
One thing I have noticed though (I use both DGAlert and SMS popup) is that when I receive a text my phone wakes up and gives me the popup...I can hit reply and get straight into chomp to reply, once I hit the back button...it then goes to the lock2.0 screen to unlock it. I know its not really supposed to be a security feature (more of a way to avoid accidental dials)

Okay so I've read through most of this thread and just wanna say I absolutely LOVE this app.
Brother has both Iphones and I have always liked the lock screen not just for the slide over part but the background pictures you could set for them. Always though it looked neat.
This is definitely an A+ app that I PROBABLY would have paid more for even.
As far as the problems people have been having I can't tell if its the app or 99% User Error. Not starting a flamewar here but half of these people's problems could be solved by just setting the phone up properly and/or reading the FAQS on group.google.com/group/lock2
I have ChompSMS and SMS Popup both installed. I still get vibrations, sounds, pop ups, etc for all my messages including emails which run off of the OEM notifications. With the paid app you can also use the default notification bar if you dislike the sleeker looking bar that the app comes with.
Anyways my hats off to the developers AND all who have taken the time to help make and provide the skins for free! I use the Apple2 myself except with an Android Background to make it nothing relative to Apple haha. I just like the little dot for a slidebar.:)

I really like this app, but I just can't stand the notification problem any more. My phone never makes it through the day without losing notifications, and some time looses notifications multiple times during the day. Sure, all I have to do is reboot it, and I know that this is a flaw in the android system, but this program seems to exploit this flaw too much. I bought it so I'll keep it around disabled hoping the author can find a way to minimize this issue, but I need to get my notifications more than a cool unlocker. I'll keep an eye this thread to see any progress is made on this issue.

Am I missing something with this app? I have Enable Autolock checked, as well as Disable System Screen Lock in the option, and when I first installed it, it worked great. If I manually locked the phone, then hit the menu button once it brought the iPhone looking screen up. I was going to buy the paid version but is it the same exact coding or is the paid version more up to date?
I can't tell you if the demo and paid app are the same coding. However, I've been using the paid app for a while, and really like it.
I can configure it so that ONLY Lock 2.0 comes up, without the default lock screen, or so that I get the default lock screen first (this allows me to use a program which displays my name and phone number on the Android lock screen, in case I ever lose my G1 and happen to get lucky with an honest person finding it.)
You can also turn on or off the built in pattern lock.
Not sure why you aren't getting consistent results. I'd imagine the paid version does give you 24 hours to check it out.
Sorry I'm not able to be more helpful. Perhaps check the exact size of the demo and the paid apps, to see if they're the exact same?

The way you described in your second paragraph is exactly how it behaved most of the day. Then I rebooted the phone and even though the settings were the same, it behaved as I described above. Messed around, and back to the way it was working before.
I don't think comparing the file sizes would be a good indication because I would expect the free version to be bigger, as it has to enable that little free popup and notification...unless it is there on the paid version as well and just not used.

Let me know if i am missing this but you cannot use the screen lock function with this can you? I am talking about the touch screen lock combination. I activate it while at college or work just in case it is stolen. Also contact owner app does not work with this. Love the app just wish it was a tad bit more customizable in terms of getting rid of the giant clock at the top that ruins the picture and adding my own text to the screen and having the phones lock feature active. Great app though absolutely love it.

i mean how can i install the .zip file i downloaded onto my sd card?
You just copy the entire zip folder onto your SD card. Then when you try to open it via Lock 2.0 on your g1. You'll be asked to download a file manager. Just download that, and when it's done you're ready to change the skin. :)

AFAIK, you need OI File Manager for the skin loader to work.

Bump
Does everyone still really like the paid version? I'm considering buying it, but if my Twidroid/Gmail/YahooMail/GoogleTalk/Txt MSGs notifcations dont go off, I probably wont buy.

New to my Eris, but i knew before i even got my phone i wanted slide lock. I got it, and i love the HL2 skin, but when i enabled the real statusbar, the skin goes a bit wonky from the bar being a bit thicker then the fake one.
I edited the .xml on my computer to fix the y position(s) for the slider, then emailed it to my phone in .zip. I opened the zip in the wallpaper option, but now i just have the files from the .zip filling up my wallpaper options. Anyone know how to clean the menu up?
Also, anyone have an guides on how to make a custom wallpaper from scratch? I want to make some more game wallpapers, especially some L4D ones.

Has anyone had any issues with the skin downloader taking freaking forever to download all the skins? I have had this paid for like 3 days now, and it just seems to keep downloading. I have rebooted, FC all sorts of ****.
I got Moto Droid.
