Hey all!

I just bought a Kingston 16GB Micro SDHC Flash Card Model SDC2/16GB (you can see it on NewEgg). I just put it into my G1, copied over some music and pictures on it, and then thought I should look here to see if anyone had any information on micro SD cards. Unfortunately, I didn't know enough to know about different "class" levels.

This is a Class 2 card, which from looking through this site seems to be slow. Should I return this card and look for a Class 4, 6, or higher? I want to use this card to store pictures, listen to music from, and save some video's on it when I travel.

Thanks!

it'll work you probably won't notice a difference

do you plan on rooting? or are you rooted? i ask because there are some rumors that say not to have an ext2 partition along with a fat32 partition of over 7 gigs. i'm not sure if the rumor is about the ext2 being a problem or just fat32 over 7 gigs being a problem. i'm guessing it has to do with the ext2 partition. do you even know what i'm talking about? lmao
does your phone see the whole 16 gigs? or close, like 15.5? if you have no idea what i'm talking about, i guess i'll just go make a new topic. thanks in advance.

16GB is a little too much imo...are you really going to use all that space?
You should've asked before buying the card...if you return it they'll have to sell it as refurbished :/
I just checked Newegg and they have A-Data 16GB Class 6 for cheaper than Kingston (class 2) Most people recommend Class 6 since it's the fastest. If you're planning to put apps on sd (root), it'll definitely be faster with a class 6 card
I would stick to a 8GB since it's waaaay cheaper. If you have TONS of music and videos...then get the A-data one...which is like triple the price of a 8GB :/

Thanks for all the feedback guys.

Crazythunder - it does show all the space, it lists "Total space" at 15,288MBs. I transferred some pictures onto it, so right now it has "Available space" at 14,846MB. You're right, I don't know what you're talking about in regards to ext2...I'm guessing it's some form of formatting? :)

feihtkrad - I'm planning on putting a good amount of my music on the card, which will eat up a pretty good amount of space. 8GB would be maxed out with the music I have, so I figured I'd just grab the 16GB card to have space for the music, some pics, and then any videos, etc. I'd like to throw on there.

I'm not rooted, and I didn't even think about the fact that if rooted you can put apps on the sd card. I suppose if I do root, then I should really do some more digging here before purchasing the right card...

Wow you must have a huge collection of music!
Rooted G1 + 8GB/16GB = countless apps!
Check the return policy on that card, Newegg is really customer friendly :)
