okay. I am very confused. I bought a g1, now i am trying to activate it, and its asking me about my google account, i give my google account info and say sign in. than after few mins i get msg saying connection problem. now, i don't have data plan, but i was thinking of using wifi, however during intial setup, i don't have option of connecting to wifi. so what should i do?
Now lets say if i am forced to sign up for data plan, and i do sign up for it just for one month n dc it after a month, would i beable to use wifi?
I have two sim cards with tmobile one has data plan n other doesn't. so onces i put in the sim card with data plan and activated the phone, than i played aroung with data setting on the phone so it won't work and made my wifi connection primary for web browsing. I wasn't able to browse web. than i put the diff sim card with no data plan and tried to access web and all was working fine.
can any one tell me what is happening. response will be highly appriciated. thanks.

The data plan is required for a G1, I believe

you probably need a 3g data connection of some kind to activate the phone. (what version are you on)

I had the same problem and called Tmob support (couldn't activate), apparently they didn't put the G1 data plan on my account (when I bought the phone off the site). If you don't want a data plan, then there's ways around it. I'd do a quick google search.

It takes a while for it to connect and activate. It took mine 12 hours or so... and I'm pretty sure you need a data plan to activate it because the guy at the t-mobile store and t-mobile support told me I need to wait for my data plan to activate (just got it) before my phone would activate. The phone is pretty much useless without a data plan though. If you don't want to get the data plan, I suggest you choose a different phone.

yes you need a data plan to activate your g1 BUT the g1 does not need a data plan after that!
SO IF YOU HAVE A FRIEND WITH A TMOBILE PHONE THAT HAS DATA JUST BORROW HIS/HER SIM CARD AND ACTIVATE YOUR PHONE
