I just got off the phone with them, cause I've never gotten the OTA, i've always done it manual; he wanted to make sure the imei # they had for the phone was correct; and in passing he mentioned they were getting ready to push out the ota updates.;)

Yes, it reports up to date.

The only reason everyone is confused is because of the photo that surfaced last week of the OTA update on a *rooted* phone, which was essentially a hoax because it didn't come out until EVERY site picked up the story, that it wasn't running official software.

Well i mean considering that there are about a gazillion other cupcake threads that are out there it just seems like a waste of space and when people make anything remotely close to another topic it gets merged, cupcake isn't coming out today, just like it didn't come out all of the other times that people said that it was coming out. Again, the OTA updates have not been rolled out for 1.5 unless you are running an ADP phone, or have a hacked image flashed.

They'll release it soon I'm sure. We're all just waiting.

TMobile hasn't started rolling it out yet.

Perhaps their MyFaves and MyAccount apps were incompatible with the 1.5 release, which would be lol++.

Got my update OTA about an hour ago and so far I'm impressed. All the aesthetic changes are nice as are the new features. Well those that I have found. I'm sure there is no screenshot ability though. :(

Would somebody please tell me if Cupcake is officially out in the US or not. I'm a G1 user by the way. People talk about it being installed and all, and official announcements talk about end of May. And what on earth does 'flush it with the german update' mean? Please, somebody, enlighten me.. :confused:

No users in North America have gotten the actual OTA Cupcake update yet. US users will start getting the OTA update sometime after May 11. They will go out totally randomly and not all at once, so it might be maybe 2-3 weeks after May 11 before you get it. Those who say they have it already are either in Europe or have rooted their phone and installed a custom build of Cupcake.

There has already been several threads started concerning this. To simplify, you should post questions about Cupcake updated in the sticky thread 'Official - I Got my Cupcake update (US)'

Please be tolerant and helpful. All of us were new to this forum at one time and probably asked a stupid question or twelve. We still mess up and make multiple threads on the same subject and sometimes a thread will be started and disappear so quickly that a person just logging on has missed the discussion from the previous hour. So chill.sh&t happens. As far as this thread goes, the sstory behind it is..Us nonrooters wanted a place of our own to wait out our update and when the thread was started, the best available info was it would be anyday. We found out later we would be waiting for a week, but there was no better thread already started so we jacked this one. But come the 11th, when the first OTA is due, and we get a link to manually download, these 8 or 10 inital pages will be insignificant. Just look how big the rooted threads are with each build/update.

I have my cupcake . I've had it for about a week . I'm in the states . Brooklyn , ny . I didn't get it the official way , but that delicious cupcake is mine . And , by the way , I got my g1 2 days before they "officially" came out . Preorder . I like reading about the people who received theirs . Also , people with dev phones got their official cupcake , in the states :)

Well they don't have a reason to hold onto the update anymore. The reason they gave for waiting till this week and not releasing it last week like T-mobile UK was because they wanted to give developers time to update their software. I think most developers have updated their apps so hopefully we'll be getting ours real soon!

It probably won't initiate the update any quicker based on your connection, BUT since it only prompts you to install it once it's been completely downloaded in the background, you may *see* the update sooner on a faster connection.

Right, but the point is you've physically spent the time to root your phone, downgrade, to flash to a hacked firmware. That's gravy and all, but once modded it's no longer official and now when another release comes out you'll have to update again with another JF release. Basically, it's no longer "automatic".

My point is this. I dislike messing with stuff that already works, works well, and is well supported. Hacking my phone to update it 2 weeks early is pointless at that stage and introduced potential issues (hidden or not). If it's a phone, I want it to run an LTS release and nothing more.

I'm cool with anyone who flashes/roots/etc their phone. I'd do it too, but I just don't have the time to spend flashing untested (and unverified) builds on my cell phone (which receives important calls).

I'll probably update via the update.zip means when it's released, but I know it's not a modified version since it's signed with the proper keys. ;)

I get the point that it takes as much work as well, but this is once over typically 6mo and it's official. I don't have time to keep flashing to fix things like the Market when it's broken, etc.

I'll now slowly drift away since I think I made my points overly clear :)

i dont really see it the same way with the g1, the cupcake will fix whatever issues i got with the phone right now

They were referring to an ongoing process that will take several weeks to complete.

i remember flashing my WM phones, and the only reason was for the ability to apply my own themes, or to customize the user interface... i love the ability to change around the color scheme, one of the things i enjoyed about those WM OS's... id love to have it here, but i dont want to have to hack my phone to do it... i dont need root access, and dont use a bunch of programs, so apps to SD is no big deal for me... i just want to change the theme...

I'm not sure if T-Mo is U.S only. I know that its a German company so I'm not sure if yours was imported from the U.S.
You will not receive a OTA since you are not on a T-Mobile network I believe. What you can do is as soon as the official Cupcake OTA comes out flash JF's version and go from there.

yea,but i get my ota's from haykuro and jf,lol. my sister has a g1 and is anxiously awaiting the ota,while in the meantime everytime i see her,i fire up camcorder,or show her the onscreen kb. she won't let me root hers. but i'm slowly convincing her. apps2sd is what's making her consider it.
