View Full Version : Ridiculously long/inefficient threads

These 50+ page threads are unnecessary. It is impossible to find ANY information in them without reading all 50+ pages. Individual threads should be made for EACH issue instead of lumping ALL threads into one humongous novel.

This is the only forum I have seen that promotes and demands this type of posting...what is the deal??

Actually, I have no problem with people starting new threads if they have a legitimate question; when a thread is fifty plus pages, I agree, it is almost impossible to find the answer to your question within that thread.

I apologize if someone has been overzealous and discouraged you. That is not our intent here.

Also, you could use the search feature to find specific posts about what you're asking, rather the a thread.

there is alot of stuff that is useless, its sometimes really hard to find an answer in a thread wih lots of pages

but all you really have to do is make a new thread if you want your question answered, theres lots of people here who would love to help

This is what discouraged me: http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f7/a2sd-issues-17084/

I understand and agree with trying to minimize the amount of repeated threads, but having ALL comments/questions/issues with an ENTIRE software build seems pretty unnecessary.

O ok, I see...

Sorry that happened to you, but as time goes on... you'll grow more familiar with the Community...

You're going to have some good experiences and some bad (disagreements mostly)

But trust me, we've all had them and it helped us grow as a community

I couldn't agree more... it seems as though one particular mod went a little crazy with power and merged/closed a _ton_ of threads. I stopped looking here as much and searched out blogs instead. I found it far easier to find the information I needed. I do like this forum though so I come back. :)

Hahaha yes.... i do remember the days of asking a question only to find you put it in the wrong place and then..... CLOSED

Your right, there is a lot of things that can't be answered in a big thread, ie: haykuro's cupcake build. But sometimes we're pretty lax with it and let people post in a new thread, the thing is some choose to post a new thread when the same question already has been answered.

one of the great things about AC is that users can post new threads when they need help, and there's pretty much always someone w/ a fix. we need to have a balance between organization and freedom (chaos), but i'm pretty confident we're going to work that out.

and i have trouble with long threads, too.

Just keep making new threads until you find the answer.

That's what I do (when I need to).

umm, no.

search. make a thread if you need to. bump your thread if you need more help. "just keep making new threads" is not the answer.

Yeah, search before.

I make threads for problems that no one seems to have =\

Feels like the odd man out.

Right. Sometimes that search f(x) just doesn't do it.

I don't see a "Read here before making new thread" sticky.

Maybe throw one up and this discussion can end.

By the way you can easily tell who contributes most to these 50+ page threads.
Look at the members with large post counts.. 1000+...
they should be excluded from the Magic give-away.
Shame on them ;)

there should be some forum guidelines up soon. honestly, making new threads seems mostly a matter of common sense and not getting carried away.

Case in point, the new thread about 'do you need a data plan for the G1 to work' LOL

Code3VW, again, my apologies. I am working to make sure the entire team is on the same page with regarding to thread closing.

...the thing is some choose to post a new thread when the same question already has been answered.

Welcome to the forum world!!! Haha. I've modded at a few different forums, a couple of them bodybuilding forums. I have to say, this forums isn't half as bad with those type of questions as some of the BB'ing forums were. I'd see the same questions posted right above one another, day in and day out. Still though, it's better than just cramming that post and every other one with the same key word (no matter how different) into the same thread. That will turn a lot of people off and send them to AF.

Not a problem. I am just glad to hear that the thread closings are isolated incidences rather than a practiced hobby here. :)
