Quoted from t-mobile forums:
""UPDATE:
G1 community,
We’d like to provide an update on the rollout of Android 1.5 for T-Mobile G1 customers.
We are working diligently to get Android 1.5 out as soon as possible, while aiming to ensure a consistent, positive experience for our customers. We’re finalizing the build this week to ensure optimal functionality and smooth delivery. Therefore, the rollout schedule has been reset by approximately a week, and we expect all G1 customers will have the update by early June.
Your device will notify you when the update is available. Thank you for your patience and understanding."

Can't say I expect much anymore, but how about sticking to self-appointed/announced deadlines? Or, not announcing a deadline at all so we don't get our hopes up?

I don't get it. Its been released in the UK already, what's that different about the US release?
Well, glad I rooted. Had cupcake for a month. Still, it would be good to have an official build, not one based off of a dev phone.

I'll tell you this: I've been troubleshooting step by step for a couple of days, and I'm almost completely ready to determine that my constant crashing and resetting is a result of Cupcake software. There are a LOT of us having this problem (no, not all, and a lot of you wouldn't admit it if you were), and it doesn't seem like a coincidence. If TMobile gave EVERYONE an OS that crashed even a low but notable percantage of customers' phones like mine has been, the warrnaty returns nightmare tidal wave would be overwhelming, if not catastrophic.
Just food for thought from someone who is going to test one more day before being 100% sure it's cupcake (BTW, I have wiped, flashed every version multiple times, MD5 checksum every file, and even tried running the phone with no SD card. It's definitely not user error in this case.)

You were running a different firmware then we are. Our software package oddly enough includes more features that need "upgrading" than the base image you guys had installed.
So, they have to create a custom deployment/update package just for us.

Didn't they release to a very, very small amount of people last Friday? Those people must have had a ton of issues, which prompted T-Mobile to delay a week. Makes sense to me, anyway.

Woah, there are some serious issues with your dates in there man... I rooted my phone this weekend because I got too impatient. I'm loving it so far, but I would like the official build to throw on the wifey's phone to see what differences exist between the dev and official...
Basically, everyone should have it by June 7th.

BINGO! WE HAVE A WINNER! I think this is obviously whats going on considering that a whole country has it already with no problems.
I switched to T-Mobile because the timing with my old contract expiring and the release of the G1 coincided with each other. I like my G1 but the service is god-awful, I'll be switching the day my contract expires.
But I digress... I'm going to be so busy this week with work and school that it'll flyby in no time.
Oh and by the way I rooted once before and switched back. Not interested in doing it again, so I'll wait.

Why would you feel bad? I could care less about all these "elite" people who root. Yes I would like to have the update ASAP but in the meantime who cares. My phone still works like a phone. I think what frustrates me is all the constant "It's official we're getting cupcake at so and so date.." posts that don't pan out. And I think this is what frustrates other people as well.
If you root, please keep your elitism to yourself, as those of us who aren't rooted obviously don't care enough to do so.
Congratulations on rooting though, perhaps we should print out some awards for the superior technical difficulty it requires to root.

Yeah, it was cool for a bit but then I started fiddling with my phone more than using it as a real phone. After which I then realized I had wasted tons of time I could've been making money taking on additional outside coding jobs. Flashed it back to stock and haven't even considered going back to the hacked image.

because of the frustration of people who haven't gotten the cupcake update"?
the elitism part isn't so much that, its more people trying to persuade people to their side... its not hard too root, and its not the biggest deal in the world
the only people who can claim to any sort of elitist status is the people who port the OS, imo anyways

It just goes to show that firmwares can be ported over to the G1, via root of course.
Do you guys think T-Mobile / Google will stop updating the G1 once it reaches EOL?
I'm not worried because I can always port a new firmware (ex. Hero on G1). But it sucks for those regular folks out there that don't even know root/modding exists.

We're getting frustrated because the updates seem to be getting pushed and pushed further back. I don't think people want to hear the "I'm glad I rooted solution". I think we just want to stop getting jerked around. A better solution would have been for T-Mobile to officially announce a date, and then stick to it. Or Google, or whoever pushes out the update (please let's not start this debate).
For those that get frustrated enough to root, then ok, but for the rest of us who don't want to, it gets frustrating to see these "sucks to be you I'm rooted because I'm awesome" threads.
Seriously, I think Windows is more complicated to install then rooting, but I'd be amazed at how many people have difficulty with this as well.
In the end I guess all I'm saying is congratulations on the accomplishment of rooting, but let's not post in every thread how you're glad you rooted.
If you did then fine, but who cares. It's almost getting more annoying then those iphone fanboys.

Who needs sentiment? It's not that we're unintelligent enough to root, but we don't want to. I think EVERY member on this board knows by now about rooting.
Sorry for the frustration, but today I've read through 4 threads, all unrelated, and all of them include a post about rooting. That's not really what I come to this website to read over and over again.

Yes, they'll end the updates once it gets EOL'd (hence the term EOL). But yeah, Tmo might not release updates but Google might take over. Who knows specifically the business plan in place.

Yeah, I'm with you. The point he's trying to make is it's annoying. I could write up 5 posts saying, "Who cares, I'm rooted" to every new OTA cupcake thread, but that doesn't help anyone nor does it provide any relevant info to the thread.
It just means you have root, which puts you into the majority of the users of this board. Good job, would you like a pat on the back and a treat? So perhaps us few OTA-only folks on this board are actually the elitest minority? Never thought of it that way. ;)

I think there may be a market for custom upgrades at that point. If the price is reasonable, people will always be willing to pay for a service they can't do themselves.
I'm once again considering rooting my phon. The stories of people recovering from bad experiences is encouraging, and as I said, there may be a market for it in the near future. Practice would be good.

Having had full use of the root account on my ADP1, I can count the number of times I've needed root access on one hand with fingers left over. The more I read about people "rooting" and "trying out" different builds, the more I wonder how often these people actually use their phones for something other than glorified beta testing.
What worries me is the people making these alternative builds will end up forking Android, and developers will have to deal with 3+ builds that are slightly incompatible with each other. Does HTC's build use a different Intent to bring up the settings application? Does (JF|Haykuro|TheDude)'s build change any of the android.R.drawble icons, maybe excluding one that some application happens to rely on or making the image larger than the stock build, which could throw off the UI in third-party applications?

actually your concern is exactly why i only use jf's mods. he does not want to cause a fork in the development process. hence why he only uses official builds and only does the three or so minor changes to it.
the only reason i don't have to much of a problem with it though, is those that are doing it do it for their own pleasure, the same reason why some people use obscure linux distros. it'll be unfortunate for the occasional user who just wants a new theme, when they realize that the amount of support for that product is little to nonexistent.

well my opinion on the whole situation is, i purchased this hardware and pay for my service to use it
the hardware is mine though, i should be able to do as i please
companies are making it to hard to customize what you want done, charging me to put on ring tones i do not want..etc.etc...
its like me selling you a steak and telling you that only 90% of it is yours
obviously most of the phones have this stuff in place as a safeguard so you dont break your device, but it should be your choice to do with it what you want
i flashed my windows mobile phones roms all the time, the phone ran better because of it, tmobile and all the other companies add so much god damn garbage to it that it effects our devices
anyways, whatever, to each is own ;) i just have no patience and wanted the update

Terminator franchise is what got me interested in the movies in the first place. The first was a suspenseful cyberpunk thriller, and the second became my favorite movie of all time. The third fell short of intelligence but still solid nonetheless, and the TV series was a good addition to the franchise. Nearing the end of May, the fourth and latest film addition of the beloved sci-fi franchise will open, and viewers are in for a sheer summer spectacle.
