If you haven't heard yet, Google Wave is awesome. How awesome? This awesome. (http://wave.google.com/)
Okay, I gotta warn you that there's an hour+long video presentation, but some parts are really neat. Wouldn't Wave on Android be fun?
Edit: here's the video directly on Youtube...

Yo... I can't believe I actually watched most of that video. I like it.
Way back, I tried to write a similar distributed email-replacement service. Wave is like Google Docs with an API, federated across multiple servers. It's good stuff, especially if it'd be usable on our phones.
Btw, you can skip to the last 10 minutes or so to watch a delicious last-demo.

I'd totally set up a Wave server when this hits the streets =D
This will make a great Forum alternative with a few tweaks!

Who wants to bet that it will be released on the iphone and blackberry before it hits Android? It happened with Latitude

Wave is built to use HTML5 and will be browser only. Google has already said there won't be a stand-alone application for it. Since Android and iPhone (and, I think, the Pre) all use WebKit, once it's supported on one of those devices, it'll be supported for all of them.

Which is not true. HTML is for browser rendering only.

Very interesting find... From what I have seen, it looks like it will be awhile before it is released but def a step (or bunch of steps) in the the right direction.

I'm afraid it is true, Google have said it will be browser access only, there will be no app (from them, maybe they will allow 3rd party development)

This is the way Google is taking the whole thing, if you read up on Chrome OS it is a really light weight linux OS, it will window a browser driver app interface, a bit like how Android is, but Google says dev's will be making apps to work in browser - Chrome OS is a major cloud hit, light hardware, light code, heavy connection. And I think Wave is going to play a great part in that. So all apps will work in chrome but also any other browser.
It is a great vision, they are changing the way we think about what is a OS, computer and app. I guess you are going to have heavy OS like Windows and Apple to do the gaming, video, music and other processor heavy tasks, but a almost instant dual boot then to do all that office, email and SNS stuff.

What, you expected more than rock-paper-scissors w/ broken image links?

Ha ha, I also expected it to be a bit more than what it is. I am curious to see where they go with it.

don't get too excited. I've had it for a few weeks after trying out the features, my friends and I still use email to communicate with each other.
wave is boring

10-26-2009, 12:44 PM
I kind of agree, thundermax. So far, I haven't seen anything spectacular about it either. However, it is a beta in the true sense, so I am hoping that they will come up with something eventually that will wow me.

As of right now, I find my Google Wave account to be utterly useless... and this is not Google's fault. At this point in time, Wave is obviously in the early-adoption Beta stages. Not many people have the service and it is a service that is integrated tightly around communication and collaboration with people.
Since I only have a mere 4 contacts on Google Wave and we do not really have anything to use the tool for yet, it seems like a waste of time. Also, I have not really found many add-ons/extensions that are beneficial to me and there is not much of a selection to choose from (yet).
As I said before, with time Google Wave will have room to grow and expand. When more people begin using Wave I am sure it will begin to find its place and make more sense as a practical tool.

i don't need 1 more place to log into and look for messages. If wave was integrated with gmail and other accounts it would make more sense

somewhere in the wave help section there is a survey for users. one of the things i asked for was the ability to email none wave members from with in wave. and then like in gmail. the invite user to wave/gmail thing in it...
i agree with everything above. its not really enough to get me to log in to another service yet. but i'll be interested to see where it goes with time.

I would give you an invite in a heartbeat... but I did not receive any with my Wave account for some reason. Maybe Google has a hold on invites right now and does not want Wave to grow too quickly

Are they selling these invites on Ebay like they were doing with Google Voice?
*UPDATE* they do sell these on Ebay it's a lil more expensive than google voice was though, I paid $9.50 for my G-Wave invite.

And now you can probably see that you just wasted your money ;)
You know, Google Wave will continue to have invites and open up more and more to the public. The longer you wait to join, the better your experience will probably end up being because you will have more contacts on Wave and more extensions will be available to use... actually making Wave worthwhile.

I definitely would not have spent money for it. My feelings would have been seriously hurt if I had.
