Hey guys, I live in Jacksonville Florida, one of the many large cities still without 3G. In fact i have found that most likely we will not receive 3G in 2009 at all. So..... I am TIRED of paying the same price for my data plan that customers who have 3G pay. 3G customers are using more bandwith and costing tmobile more money then Edge customers yet we pay the same amount. If you pay for cable modem internet at a 6mb download rate you pay more than customers with a 1mb internet. As with most any product you pay less for something slower, smaller Etc. T-mobile needs to have an Edge data plan and a 3G data plan. I know some people on this Forum work at tmobile and i just wanted to see if they or someone else want to help complain in numbers to the right people or place and try to get something done about it because it SUCKS and us Edge customers are getting RIPPED OFF plain and simple!

There won't be 3G in my city either this year. I agree that we shouldn't have to pay as much. If there's still no 3G in my area when my contract is up I'm switching.

WTF? Are you serious? How long have you had the phone? I think there is a disclaimer about 3G not being offered in all areas.

However, If I was you I would have started a LETTER WRITING CAMPAIGN the day I started paying the 24.99 or 34.99 rate plan.

Btw , you know you don't live in a 3g area . That's why tmo stores sell them in 3g areas .

I rarely use 3G (Edge: works just fine when I'm not at home on wifi)

And we've had it in Philly since launch!

I guess I wouldn't complain about paying for the data plan, afterall I choose to pay it knowing I don't live around 3G; however, I would say that tmo does need to expand it. When I lived in Colorado Springs the word was that they were getting it in December 08, to this date it's still not there. Now I live in the Alabama country and I really don't expect to get 3G, but it's nice to have when I travel. *shrugs*

I agree. wish there was a way for it to be cheaper. Just not gonna happen though. I can't wait until 3g is everywhere like edge is now.

lol that's weird, in the Netherlands all operators that sell internet contracts have 3G coverage everywhere, even in the middle of no where. The large cities (Amsterdam, Utrech, Rotterdam, The Hague, etc.) have HSDPA coverage ;)

Here we don't have EDGE though, we went from GPRS to 3G.

plus 3G kills your battery.....

Back when I first got the G1, I would only use [e] Edge to conserve battery. But I noticed I would go home and have a ton of battery left before charging and going to sleep.

So ever since then, I have my settings to WCDMA ONLY! [3G].

Sure, it drains more battery, but the speed difference is great. Plus I still make it home with over 40% by 2:45AM so I'm good. :)

...why would a company that's out to make money (and is all ready cheap compared to their competition) -- do something like that?

I understand we as consumers want to save money, but they also have to make some profit somewhere. When they sold the phone, they said "We highly recommend that you have access to 3g to fully enjoy the features of the phone". With that said, you pretty much bought it regardless of that forewarning.

If they wanted, they could limit the plans to edge or 3g only, but then they have to restructure their billing system to handle tower/network specific data, as opposed to a global. That's a rewrite of some of the core system functionality, billing, payment, etc.

I doubt that will ever happen, especially if Tmo's competition doesn't do it as well.

Edit: Oh, and petitions don't really do much in the product/service world. You're petitioning a cell phone provider who already has lower data rates then their competition. They'll just tell you if you dislike the service, to go elsewhere.

i dont think they would tell u that! they are not in the business of losing money. that is why when u call and complain they do anything possible to keep u as a customer. i agree that they cant change the billing system so what the OP is asking for is kind of out of the question. but tmobile or any wireless company will never tell u "if u dislike the service, go elsewhere"

Well, they'll never tell you that. They'll throw all kinds of free things at you to keep you around. But, that's the general consensus. You as a customer are selecting them as a service. If their service isn't good enough, there are plenty of other choices. That's what I was trying to say, haha.

That's not weird at all.
Having live in Holland for 17 years, the area to cover is much smaller, no matter where you are, than pretty much anywhere in the US. ANd to top it off, it's pretty much competely flat. Much easier to cove rlarge area's that are flat, as opposed to place swith hills and mountains.
SO, a country like Holland is way easier to service, and udate to newer technology like 3G and HSDPA than an enormous country like the US.
