can somebody tell me in depth what the sim card lock actually does?

i think if your sim is replaced, your phone will not work. antitheft device.

if you drop in a different sim card from another carrier the G1 will ask for a unlock code if you enter a wrong code 5 times it will sim lock your phone. you will not even be able to use youe original car either. you will need to call tmo for and unlock code

Well basically i have lot sim card to whom i can lock through give pin code which will SIM card company provide to us and any handset i will put my Sim it will ask pin code.
