Samsung Galaxy now available from O2 Germany

The big Android news today is all out of London and New York today, but if we move a bit eastward, there's some cool stuff going on in Deutschland, too: Samsung's i7500 Galaxy is now available. The beastly smartphone immediately becomes the highest-end Android device to date and will have a little while to enjoy the top of the hill until the Hero drops, thanks in no small part to its 5 megapixel cam, support for 7.2Mbps HSDPA, 8GB of internal storage, and a 3.2-inch AMOLED display. Looks like it's yours for €69.99 (about $98) on contract, so count us in -- and how about some time on the Nürburgring while we're at it?

I'd be hounding you for updates, but I don't htink it runs on T-Mobile's US 3g. If I find out otherwise, I shall be flooding you with pm's. ;)

Not only do we not currently have the Galaxy, with its 8GB of space and 288mb of RAM, but we don't have an autobahn either.

I'm not sure which is worse.

Everywhere I look at online, I see that the phone only has 128MB ram. Also, because its samsung, we don't know how vibrant the developer community will be, and you can pretty much forget about hero rom's and such.

Maybe (dare I say it?) people will stop looking at other ROMs and start writing their own code.

At it's core, the Hero's Sense UI is really nothing more than a set of custom applications (and a few native libraries) that all adhere to the Android API. It's nothing that can't be accomplished by a group of individuals; one need only look at Gtk or GNUstep to realize this.
