While I was at the T-Mobile myTouch 3G event earlier today, a rep from T-Mobile whispered a few sweet nothings into my ear. I didn’t think anything of it because PR folk are always trying to butter me up, but there was something about Android updates that popped up.

Apparently, T-Mobile will be pushing out four Android updates this year or I’m lead to believe, but four updates were definitely mentioned. Two being minor while the other two being major updates for the OS. 1.1 was the minor and 1.5 was the first major leaving two more updates. Other details were not privy to me, but the next will be Donut (obvs). I’m afraid that’s it, though.

And because Devin made the images for me, I’ll post both of them to keep him happy.

Hmm...I wonder what else they could add...(AutoRotate/soft keyboard is already here...)

Maybe a few optimization tweaks for those who don't know/want root? ~_~

So this means that Google will be pushing out four Android releases per year, because to the best of my knowledge, TMobile isn't writing any underlying code for Android.

Awfully ambitious of them and explains why they haven't had time to update their roadmap to reflect their plans.

Yes! you can expect something, expect it to be ported..

I guess this other major OTA will be 2.0 aka Donut

Keep in mind there is nothing to say that its four "G1" updates, maybe the last two are prepping the "mytouch"(who's autistic 4 year old came up with that name?)for Donut.

Oh great. Cyanogen gets his rom super fast and then has to start over again on a new release. hahahaha

In addition to the one minor and one major (Cupcake) update Google rolled out, there's going to be two more updates for the 2009 year. One's minor and one's major (Donut).

That is great news if it's true :D

Ern, I don't know. User Interface wise I don't think cupcake is that great.
Just off hand it enabled auto rotate and an onscreen keybored.
I don't think thats very great.

Minor tweak? Eh.
Major? Probably just wont like it more.

Hopefully we get some good apps out of of though.

Perhaps he should have committed his changes back to the GIT source tree; his "super fast" changes would be in subsequent releases of Android and he would not have to "start over".

why would he need to start over in the first place? its not like hes using an official rom pushed to US users. hes using the htc ADP build that was leaked out way before cupcake was released

Dude are you kidding?

Cupcake included stereo bluetooth, video recording and cut and paste all before the iPhone got them. That's pretty major in my book.

They could start by making it more car friendly with voice dialing via Bluetooth...and enabling BT functionality with computers.
