1) Setup or Login to your gizmo5 account page (www.gizmo5.com (http://www.gizmo5.com))
2) There should be a section explicitly for entering your Google Voice username and password. Enter your username and password. Also be sure to make a note of your full 11 digit Gizmo5 number

3) Download and open the SIPDroid app from the market. In the SIPDroid app, hit Menu and press Settings. Enter:
Username: your 11 digit Gizmo5 number (e.g. 17475555555)
Password: your Gizmo5 password
Server: proxy01.sipphone.com

4) Turn on your phone's Wifi connection. Make sure SIPDroid is running (should be in the Ongoing section of the notifications drop down menu).

5) Login to Google Voice (www.google.com/voice (http://www.google.com/voice)). Add & Verify your Gizmo5 number. If you set up SIPDroid correctly and your wifi is working properly, your G1 should ring. It took a few tries for the phone to actually ring but eventually it did for me.

Yes, you need a Google Voice account. No, no one can invite you except Google. Incoming calls on Gizmo5 are free. Ask further questions and discuss below!

Ok....got it working.

Just in case anyone else has this problem......

For user name, I changed it from my Gizmo number to my Gizmo account name and registration went thru.

If you download sipdroid from the google code site and not the android market, then you can make calls on 3G/Edge in addition to wifi.

http://code.google.com/p/sipdroid/

According to Gizmo5 site, its limited to 20 minute call durations...guess they are still trying to see what direction they want to go with this. When I enabled it initially there was no limit specified.

OK, so I got everything to connect nicely but I still am a bit confused:

1) In google voice, should i list "this phone's number" as my Gizmo5 number or my mobile #?
2) Also in GV settings, should I use GV for all calls?
3) Which number should I give people- my GV # or my Giz5 one?
4) Will using GV/Giz5/SipDroid give me free outgoing calls, incoming ones, or both?

using motorola droid btw

FYI, Gizmo5 has suspended new accounts after its acquisition by Google.

I got it working with these settings: http://forum.androidcentral.com/showthread.php?p=14923#post14900

This worked very smoothly for me except that it isn't free. When I make a call a gizmo recording informs me that I need to purchase credit to connect. Has Google changed something recently? Anyone else being asked to pay?

So, I know this is really late and that it's been 11 months since google's acquisition of gizmo5, however I was wondering if, as for you, there is no longer a google voice log in section on the gizmo5 home page, at least there is not one for me: As seen here. (http://imgur.com/yb1yw.png)
I was wondering if this is universal, or if some how I can activate it.

Thanks.

Hey everyone, as you may know, Google has killed off Gizmo5. However, there still remain TWO other ways that one can make free calls to USA and Canada using Google Voice and a free VoIP service like Sipgate and IPKall. I've written a new guide on how to set it up, and will try to keep it up-to-date:

I recently abandoned my mobile plan for a MiFi / Talkatone solution using the Verizon 4G LTE MiFi (blazing fast) and an unlocked iPhone. I wrote about it in detail on my blog.
