Before the first ever Samsung Android Phone - the Samsung Galaxy - makes its way to American shores we’re already hearing about another version of the same phone… the Samsung Galaxy Lite. The Wi-Fi Alliance passed the phone through its certification process and IN the process outed the device’s existence.

There is no solid evidence that the Samsung Galaxy Lite will run Android OS, but one would THINK that it would be a smaller version of the same phone with more meager hardware specs. I would assume this phone runs Android… wouldn’t you?
But we can’t be sure and unfortunately, even if it IS running Android, there is no telling when or if it will ever reach North American shores. After all, we’re still waiting for the original Galaxy.

I LOL'd :)
The Samsung Galaxy lite won't have the amoled screen, only a 3mp camera, and less internall memory (less then the 8gb the Galaxy has). I could be wrong, but I believe those are some of the differences. RAM and processor stay the same.

Where have you got this information from?

Where have you got this information from?
Probably about 2 feet below the back of his neck.
;)
Who knows, this isn't brand new information by any means. I read about a cheaper version of the i7500 months ago, around when the t-mobile roadmap leaked. Google is your friend.
I know it has a smaller camera, yet still maintains the flash (word is the bigfoot might have this same camera;3.2 megapixel). Will share alot of the same features as the bigfoot.
Can someone else who keeps up with Android phones jump in and help this guy with a link?
Here's a couple links i found. Took about .5 seconds to find through Google. Some of you Android rookies should really keep up, this phone is old news. Supposedly originally called the Spica.

where does it say this is the samsung galaxy lite?
Probably around the same place it says the i7500 is the Galaxy. The Galaxy isn't official yet.
One could imagine that Samsung wouldn't release two phones with the same specs, as this would be poor marketing, so it's safe to say this phone is the phone they're talking about.
On another note, the i7500 (now known as the Galaxy), was originally in the T-mobile roadmap as the Houdini.
Names change. Now that you're all caught up, let's try and keep it that way. Bigfoot should be coming soon as well, it'll have the same specs as this "lite" phone, except for the physical keyboard.
Some tips on keeping up, follow everything Google on Twitter, as well as the android community and the android site.
Then use Google Reader. It's awesome for getting the latest Android news.

And how about...SERIOUSLY? The Galaxy isn't official yet? And it doesn't say the Galaxy is the i7500? Really? (http://it.samsungmobile.com/cellulari/samsung-i7500-galaxy):rolleyes:

In the US, you should add, because the i7500 Galaxy is already being sold in some European countries.

He could be right, one of those handsets bares more than a passing resemblance to the Galaxy.

I totally agree that it looks like the galaxy
but that is only a presumption
there is nothing official that will lead us to the conclusion that the samsung spica is the galaxy lite
Oops, sorry, let me clarify, the Galaxy isn't official in the US yet. On the T-mobile roadmap it says Samsung Houdini. Say nothing of a Galaxy or Spica. You can't tell me in one comment that "where does it say the Spica is the Galaxy lite", then send me a link to some non-US website about the Galaxy. Phone names change when coming from country.
All this aside, just look at the picture and implied specs(falls below the i7500). It bears a more then obvious resemblance to the i7500. Why would samsung release 3 phones (a spica, the i7500, and then this galaxy lite phone).
Please use your brains, it's presumed to be the same damn phone.
Let's not argue amongst ourselves and try and keep up. It's not rocket science.
Also, the Galaxy, the Houdini, Spica, the bigfoot are all assumptions. Everything we ever talk about before an official release is just assumptions based on blogs, release photos, etc. Until we have anything official, all we can do is assume. If we had something official, we wouldn't be having this discussion.
In the meantime, most people would just ASSUME, that these "non-official" phones are the same phones. Like I said, samsung wouldn't come out with the same phones with the "assumed" same specs, that's just dumb.
It's like assuming you have the hero phone, and then people talk about a "smaller cheaper" hero phone. Would HTC release two phones to fit the same category? No.
C'mon guys, seriously, let's all take a trip to OZ so we can get you guys some brains.

Too be honest eRoc
i think your missing the main point of why i created this thread
im not saying your wrong and i am not claiming to be right.
i only wanted the android community to know that the samsung galaxy lite phone exists offically
because as the post states
"The Wi-Fi Alliance passed the phone through its certification process and IN the process outed the device’s existence."
i only posted this to confirm the device's existence
if you had known or speculated this from before then
well done and congratulations
i hope that makes you feel better :)

I've seen rumours that the Samsung I5700 AKA Spica has an 800MHz processor instead of the 528MHz one of the I7500 AKA Galaxy.
Anyone have any idea if this is true or what processor the I5700 has?

It'll hardly be a 'Lite' version of the Galaxy if it ends up being even better specced than the original...
