View Full Version : JACKSONVILLE FL has 3G!

I didn't see anything in searching that stood out as to be a thread regarding new 3G areas, specifically Jacksonville, FL, so forgive me if this has been posted already... BUT:
I just now, a few minutes ago, after pulling my phone out of airplane mode, saw it flash to 3G right before going WiFi. I was stunned!
Checked my wife's MyTouch 3G, and it was still on edge, so I turned on and back off "2G Only Networks" and it connected to 3G, so this has just happened! Asked my father in law to check his, and sure enough!
So I checked t-mo's website, and it still shows no 3G here, so this must be brand spanking new!
Shame, my first 3G experience though was just a couple of weeks ago in Athens, GA... I coulda waited!
So, good news for Jacksonville! No more waiting!

Finally! Its 3:30am and I am noticing this now! Yes! Jax now has 3G! Wooohoooo!

Aww man im still on Edge hopefully 3g comes soon. I live near the airport on Dunn Avenue.

Did you go into Menu, Settings, Wireless controls, Mobile network settings, and make sure "Use only 2G networks" is not checked! :cool:
I know it works all over Jax because I called all my friends to make sure.

Actually it appears there are still spots still on EDGE. I have 3g at work but EDGE at home, near the river city marketplace.

I got it now man its way fas:)ter than edge lol I just had to go outside.to get the signal

after reading this, i decided to turn off my "use only 2g" setting. seeing as how buffalo,ny was in q3 to be turned on. low and behold....umts!!!! finally. streaming 192kbs stream as i type. thanks for the heads up!

Just did a speed test at http://www.mobilespeedtest.com/ to see the 3G difference and this is what I got:

I tested again transferring 1MB and got better results!! Haha!! :D
Maybe we should start a speed test thread so people could post their results so we could compare! :confused:

well, i'm just on the outskirts of buffalo. not exactly high society lol. so i'm probably the only person on the network here lol. or one of 10 maybe. and those other 9 probably don't even know 3g is activated,minus my sister who i just called way on the other side of town. umts over there too,about 15 miles away.

Unfortunately, Erin, I wouldn't get your hopes up. We had been told we were to have 3G in Jax months and months ago and are just now finally getting it.

It is kinda spotty. My husband works in the Deerwood area (off of southside blvd) and he has only edge there. However, we have 3G at our home in Arlington. I read on another website that some towers in jax aren't 3G yet because of osprey nests, but that should be changing in the near future.

Nashville, TN is supposed to get it in Q3...a TMO rep told me today it would be late this month or early September. I'm psyched!
