If this is a democratic process, I'll attach my vote to this issue.

I've pretty much resorted to just browsing the top10 most recent threads or whatever at the top of hte forum index...

we all care what you have to say here... we are all a family here and we all care what each and every one of our community members thinks... its alright to express how you feel the reason for all these sections is that when the phone does launch and this site blows up with new members there will be a place and section for everything. :) thats why we have all these sections. :D MODS correct me if im wrong.

LOL me toooo!

The way is set up is fine and easy to get around, it just seems alot of the members dont know how to categorize their post under the proper subforum. my website forum has 10 categories, 39 forum topics, and 35 subforums.

Well im just saying , Im not a forum expert but Im pretty sure even at its peak, this community will still have too many sections, Im on forums with 70 thousand + members, and its doing fine with 10-12 forums!(of course not all members are active)

lets say at our peak with a few more thousand members members, we will have 30 FORUMS! wow

Prime example right here! I posted in off-topic for a reason, maybe someone will see my thread! In this feedback section, besides the thread under me all others havent had a new reply for 3+ days

this forum is Android Community Site Updates
which is perfect, if it were one forum, but its split in 3 with subforums, and Im pretty sure contest giveaways and feedback can just fit into the sit update forum :D

Like poster above us said, I have also resorted to just clicking the top ten threads on the front page, sadly

This is the best android community out there, but Im thinking it can be better

anyway let me end my rant/whining now:o

The site update section as I stated in my write up is mainly for AC staff to communicate changes to the community. It's not intended to be too busy. You should actually thank AC providing a dedicated section that you can voice your concerns/feedbacks etc. and as far as the giveaway / contest section goes, we intend to do a number of these, and as such, should have it's own subforums.

I don't know what forums you're from -- but Android community is not dedicated to only 1 product - but will house an infinite of products ranging from phones to whatever that'll utilize Android in the future. With that being said, carriers and manufacturers along with a number of OHA members that deserves to participate in the discussions. My suggestion to you is this...if you don't like AC, there are a number of other Android / T-Mobile / G1 communities on the Internet that you can participate in. You're concerns and feedbacks are not going unheard, but until you can provide a better solution for the layout - there's really nothing more we can do to accommodate your needs here.

Actually Its not so great of having a feedback section that is never browsed upon, sure by mods and admins, but sometimes having members check out the thread is good also, but with it being so dug deep, its not exposed.........compact forums = more views = more productivity

Also I am not affiliated or supported by AC as far as positions are concerned to take any time out for a better solution or layout, but my memo is clear, fewer forums

Lastly, I was being as helpful as I can in my posts, if you wanted kick me out of the community, you didnt have to sugar-coat it

good night

I'd be perfectly content with it but we need a larger recent posts/topics listing. like 20 or 30 even...just my opinion.

I did say on this page this is still the best Android community out there, but it can be a tad bit better
I didnt know giving some feedback will lead someone to think that Im unhappy and should leave.

but whatever, delete this thread, act like it never happened, but I can PROMISE you cutting down will only benifit the site, as you can see noone has really posted in this thread now that its in a unseen section, except for abolute up there, and by going by his post he noticed it by the top ten threads on the front page, which we all have now resorted too

Technickal, this forum will grow immensely. Every members thoughts are taken seriously and we do strive to constantly improve.

At the moment, you might be right that there are too many. This forum will grow. There is only one handset available right now with the OS, it hasn't even hit the market yet, and the forum is already growing by leaps and bounds. Imagine there being 10,000+ active members, you post this thread, and it's on page 2 before someone can even read it.

Creating a structure now will only help to prevent teething pains in the future. It's better to take care of the problem before it comes. It's a well-known fact that people don't like to change. If we waited until there were 10,000 members to restructure, we'd have a larger number of dissatisfied users. If it's taken care of now, it won't bother new users in the future because it's what they're used to.

Honestly, if you have any suggestions on the structure, spit them out. :)

the way i see it change has never been a bad thing. i'd have to say this site is always changing between more people signing up and different things being discussed there will always be changes to this site weather adding more threads or removing some. i would have to say this site is perfect the way it is right now. and if there will be changes we will be ready for them. this site is ready for what has yet to come when the G1 is released to the public. i love you guys. and i love this community. :D and thats what the russian guy thinks. :p

It's great to have new ideas and to have patience with the process. I don't think the intention was to kick you out or delete the thread, but as is often the case with typed responded, it did sort of have that feel to it in text. I hope that you will realize that you are a welcome and valued part of the community. In truth, all parts of any community must be welcomed in order to continue to have a community and not something else.

As usual, I agree both that it's hard to find a way to keep up with the forum and that the new system looks to accomodate upcoming Android system growth -- this community has blown up just that month since I started lurking in September. But I'm also learning new ways to work with the forum. I used to use the most frequent 10 but now find new posts a better way to get a taste of what's happening. Some posters are more enthusiastic than informative, I learn to be selective and also forgiving. If I dive into a post that doesn't rock me, I drop it and move on.

I want to be free to contribute my wisdom and discernment to AC and I want to learn and grow so that I interact with AC the way it both suits me.

I also find when things get uncomfortable it gives me an excuse to get off the forum and do something more useful.

So I hope we won't let the flaws of typed communication fragment our great community.

I'm alright with the thousands </sarcasm> of forums. I think my biggest complaint is that when threads are created, usually by a new member, that asks the same question as 100 other threads, nothing is done about it.

Why not lock the thread (or even delete it) after a link has been given to the previous thread with the same topic? I think the 30 different forums wouldn't be such a big deal if there weren't SO MANY duplicate threads inside of each of them.

And, btw, I may have missed something. You mods may be doing this already, and I just miss it or something... Don't take this as a mod-bashing session! I seriously love it here and these little complaints aren't a big deal to me... I just really like that there is a place for this stuff.

But, back to the "too many forums" debate. Some mod said something along the lines of "when we grow, imagine having so many posts in 1 forum that something gets to page 2 before you can read it".

Honestly, I'd rather have 90 new posts inside 1 forum than have 3 new posts inside 30 seperate forums that you have to back out of and get back into a new forum to see the new post... but thats just me...

There are definitely advantages to haveing lots and lots of subforums, but in my opinion, that isn't one.

bingo

I think they want to keep every topic in order with its separate forums, but having 30 forums with 3 new posts in each isnt the best thing either

If time is taken about to reorganize the boards, alot of subforums can merged right in with other forums
for instance, heres what I would do, not forcing or suggesting it, just would I would do

The General App Discussions, right now its broken into 4 PARTS! FOUR!
If thats not too many forums/subforums, then I dont know what is
You can check for yourself those forums a really struggling with barely any new posts in each
but what one can do, is just have a General App Discussion Forum(Applications Ideas, Reviews and Updates)

waaa lllaaahh! we now have 1 App forum with a good amount of traffic, now people entering will now see threads about ideas/reviews/updates right on the front page which = more new posts = more productivity and behind all that, a more simple layout!

but who cares what I think! Im just a madman! but really this is my last post in here, I gave all the love I had to give, hopefully thing can change for the better but if they dont WHO CARES! this is the best android community on the net either way lets celebrate woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just wish people would look at the topics before posting a new one to see if there is already a topic for that subject.
