Does anyone know where the actual data is stored on a G1 (or I guess any Android) for the SMS messages?

Logically to me, if the OS is able to pull information into a view for us to see on the screen, then the background data MUST be available somewhere... but where???

Any ideas? I've tried using Linda File Manager to cruise through my phone and I can't seem to have any luck...

Its:

/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db

Its a database file so if you're trying to LOOK at it, it wont work without a db viewer. You can however back it up from terminal:

cp /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db /sdcard/mmssms.db

Basically it'll copy the file to the root of your sdcard. If you have root access you can push it back after a wipe as well. You can just as easily use backup apps from market which do the same exact thing.

Thanks Prash... sounds like you've done that before a time or two... :)

I havent installed any real 'mods' to the phone or my laptop for connecting it (and I dont count Open Home as a Mod)... So its gonna take me some time to read up and get comfortable doing all this before I start.

I did talk to my atty and he has seen the messages I need, and as long as I keep them on my phone till court, I'm golden. So It may not even be necessary for me to pull these files.

Thanks for the info though, hopefully others will be able to use this in their time of need as well.

Using www.uppidy.com (http://www.uppidy.com) is free. Download from the app store for android. Store texts cross platforms (BB & iPhone). Stores in all UTF-8 languages. Very useful and super easy.
