Hi all,

I have an HTC Magic. I love the mic dongle that came with it. It has a mic in the middle and a 3.5mm jack on the other end. It's also got a single button that will pause/play my current audio/mp3 track. This works great in my car.. I plug my phone in, click the button and I've got my audio coming through my car speakers.

When a call comes in, it pauses the audio and the call goes through my car speakers, and the mic on the line works rather well.

There's only two things I wish it would do:

1) Charge the phone. Seems possible .. and since there's only one connection to the phone, it's not possible to do it another way.

2) Forget the wire, just use bluetooth.

Obviously, these are mutually exclusive. I'd much prefer #2.

Does anyone make a bluetooth car kit that has:

1) The pause/play button to start/stop audio from the phone
2) Will play the phone's mp3/audio through bluetooth
3) No built-in speaker .. or will use the car's speakers if connected. I don't want to listen to my audio through a crappy built-in speaker .. that's what my car's audio system is for.
4) A mic (for phone calls).

I'm interested in an answer to this question too.

I have a Sony head unit with BT, I bought it a couple of years ago for my Wing. I paid about $150, it was the cheapest BT capable head unit in the store.

With WinMo on the Wing the A2DP (stereo BT) sucked, I had to go through the process of pairing every time I shut the car off, but with my new myTouch it works like a charm.

I only had to pair them once and everything just works. Music sounds great! Much louder than using a line in cord to the front panel jack. The forward and revers track buttons work to advance the track and when I get a phone call the music pauses and the ringtone plays over the stereo. I just press the volume knob to answer and then again to hang up. The BT phone works like this no matter what source (input) I'm litening to on the stereo. I can even use the knob to redial the last called number when I have the unit in BT phone mode. To dial any other number I need to use the phones contact list but that's understandable.

If I leave the head unit in BT stereo mode, all the phone's notifications sounds play through the stereo. This is kinda cool but can be a little disturbing if I've left the volume up with the music off...

I have not tried pausing the music with the head unit but I'm guessing it works... all the other music controls do.

All in all I'm totally happy with the way Android works with my cheap car stereo. I gots me the rockinest Tercel on the road! Just one more reason why Android beats the heck out of WinMo.

ETA: The power cord for my Garmin GPS works as a car charger too! I'm all set with old kit.

Ok, in an effort to be helpful I just went out to my car and checked. There is no pause button on my Sony, but the music pauses automaticaly when you get a phone call. The phone itself does this I think, because when the call ends the music starts right up where it left off. If I'm listening to another source it just mutes the music for the duration of the call.

I wasn't sure if the Sony had a mic or if the phone's mic was just picking up my voice so I checked the manual... it has a mic. I can say that the hands free works just fine in my noisy little car, quite a bit better than my Plantronics ear piece ever did.

This is the unit I have, (http://www.sony.co.uk/product/ica-cd-tuners/mex-bt2500/tab/overview)it's been discontinued but there is a new model at a similar price point.

I've got that same head unit Spyvie. If you look closely, the "6" button also has "Pause" written above it. Works like a charm!
