It's official. JF has now retired from making ROMs. Read it on his blog (http://jf.andblogs.net/2009/08/20/calling-it-quits/#more-146).

Oh man, without this guy, I would probably have gotten rid of the G1. I remember when a couple of stock users started getting their RC33 updates, we would all wait here and on XDA, just waiting for JF to get, root it, and release it. Just rushing home just to update the phone. Hahaha thanks alot.,

If ever there is an android hall of fame, he should be the first inducted.

If you read this jf, thanks for everything.

He has done a great deal for Android, and is certainly appreciated. However, I am curious to see if he really is done, as he has said this before.

I hope this is sarcasm. I didn't see you bring us root to the G1 or first dibs on cupcake. JF paved the way for people like justanothercrowd, Drizzy, and even the great cyanogen. Without JF we'd all most likely just be anticipating OTA updates and complaining about apps filling up our internal memory. This man opened the door to nearly unlimited possibilities for our G1's and Android. What did you do that impacted the Android community and I mean worldwide not just this forum?

lol
I don't need to bring you root. You're just another person who will never be happy or satisfied with what they get, and wanna change it.

- install apps you plan to use
- don't install apps just to waste space
- why would i want 40+ apps on my phone when I only uses less than half?

- i impacted android world wide, by being able to use the phone without hacking it. Obviously thats hard for you to do.

but its ok sweetheart, I admire you sticking up for your boyfriend JF.

are you serious right now? that is absolutely uncalled for, both towards the person on this forum and towards jf.

I'm not sure you deserve any response, as you are skirting a very fine line of being a flame starting troll.

so how about i leave it with this, the android is an open source operating system. hence it depends on the community, and not just a corporate entity to make it better. In that matter, jf was the beginning of a long line of people improving it, not just your needs but for everybody's needs.

and no you have done nothing worldwide for android...

still doesn't change the fact, you guys aren't happy with the phone to leave it how it was meant to be.

sure android is open source, but hacking it out and swapping roms and loading apps to SD cards...that has jack to do with android. you can do that on windows mobile phones... so how does it differ?

so what has he really done for android?
has he improved the OS? nope just gave you updates to it faster

but I'll give him that much.

and if having freedom of expressing my opinion, is skating a thin line of trolling, excuse me for giving my opinion!

I'm not breaking any rules, so no grounds for punishment.

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional or disciplinary response[1] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[2]

and don't give me that punishment bs. you weren't punished. and you did give an ill informed poorly developed opinion...

not true . i loved my phone without rooting it . i waited 6 months to root it because i didnt have a reason to . i decided to root it , because i could and because i like to tinker with stuff . i was fully happy with it just how it was . i had it going smooth , fast , and had more than enough apps on it . i knew how to take care of it , and it showed .
but now thats its rooted , i am more than happy with it ! but , its not about changing roms , or hacking it , or even the extra features . its about having the freedom to do with my phone as i wish .

I was actually happy with the phone and it being stocked. I had it stocked for my first 3 months.

Rooting/modding allows me to fully optimize my phone. I enjoy it even more.

I'm just saying what made the craze for the G1 so big was it was open-sourced. It let's people do what they want with a phone that has nearly unlimited possibilities software-wise. I was very happy with my stock G1 and I didn't root until 2 months after the cupcake release. I just enjoy seeing what my phone is capable of that's all. OK cool you don't root your G1 and enjoy it stock, that's cool too, nobody said if you don't root then you're wrong. It's still wrong for you to bash something you have no part in or involvement at all. I don't even know what you're doing in this sub-forum since you have no interest in Custom ROMs anyway. Just because you don't use root or understand it doesn't mean you have to hate it.

AHH, lol, you guys are killing me....JesusFreke is not leaving Android, quit saying goodbye to him...lol

All he is doing is announcing that he wont be releasing any more roms...And to the person that said something about JF hasnt done anything but get updates to your phone faster....Your dead wrong in this.....Almost everything you can do to your phone now and what you do with your phone now, JF had a hand in....
