Why Android?

Hi, I just googled for android device... and need to purchase it but I am confused whether all my applications will be compatible on it which I have in my windows mobile smartphone. Please Help!

Android is like the 'third way' its not Windows, its no5 Apple. It Linux. It's free, its different its possibly better.

I'd suggest staying with a windows mobile phone especially if you use it for work and what not.

Although, in the context of applications, it's Dalvik (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dalvik_virtual_machine) that's the important bit.

For example, it's possible to run the same app, if it's written in Java, on anything that supports that Java version, as it's cross-platform compatible.

Dalvik, however, only exists as part of the Android OS. So, at present, Android apps only work on Android devices, and apps made for any other OS else won't work on it.

To answer the OP. You probably won't care if your apps for your Windows Mobile device will work. I've used Windows Mobile and Symbian a lot, and in my experience Android has way better apps for everything. The only exception is Microsoft Office stuff. You can get Documents2Go for Android, but I've never been a fan of it.

It depends what your apps do... how about a list of things you need to be able to do on your phone and we can tell you if Android has decent apps on the market to achieve that.

Is it possible to transfer my personal data on windows desktop PC from previous device and then transfer to android device?

It depends what you mean by "personal data".

I came from a Nokia to Android. All I did was use Nokia PC Suite (or Data Suite? I forget now) to copy everything from my phone onto my PC. There was a way to save everything or convert everything into CSV format.

Then, just to figure out the format, I exported my contacts, etc, from Google using their web interface. I looked at the format of the CSV file, and basically converted the CSV file from my Nokia into the same format by hand using Search and Replace in Notepad.

Finally, I imported said CSV file back into Google, and had all my contacts etc all there.

Other files I could convert into text, and just import via the SD card.

Text messages... well I wanted to convert these but never found a way. Then I realised I was using text messages to store data (like phone numbers, addresses, etc) when really I should have stopped being lazy and copied this data to other apps/programs/contact lists/etc. So I did, then I deleted all my text messages.

What do you mean by "personal data"?
