That should remove both partitions

I am new to this as well. I finally made a bootable Ubuntu cd (you can search through the forums) and bought a card reader and formating my SD card (using my computer rather than the phone) has become a breeze.

Try reformating it . You can format it through the phone settings , under sd and phone storage . Be sure you aren't mounted or you will get an error .

This post will tell you step by step how to repartition your card.
It will even tell you how to do it, without loosing your Apps2SD/etx3 data.
