View Full Version : MyTouch Damaged Question

I recently got rained on and my phone's touch pad stopped working. I also always get force close when I try to open up my contacts (with the trackball).

However after a day part of the touch screen started working again. I believe that it is water damage. I called Tmobile and told them that it just stopped working since the water damage label is still white.

Would anyone know if they will charge me the new phone replacement if they open up the phone and see that it has been water damaged even if the label did not turn color? Thank you.

I'm sure they *could* detect moisture in there, but most likely, they're just look at the label. I dont see them going into that much detail if the label has not changed color.

I guess if its raining and not sunny outside thats the best option, or you could just come to Cali where am at, set your phone outside in the sun with the back door and battery apart and let the sun dry it out.

But then again I herd rice OR salt helps but I'm not sure which was was the correct one to use.

Put it in a bowl of rice.

Rice grains. The moisture in the phone and the heat of the battery might make it fully cooked rice if you leave it long enough. lol :)

uncooked rice!

not salt, do not put it in salt. water and salt is very corrosive to electronics. bad idea. I repeat do not put in salt

they will replace your phone for a shipping fee & all you have to do is give them your phone! but you do have to wait at least 3days to get the phone b/c its still under factory warranty you don't have to pay a deductible! just go to a t-mobile store & they take care of it for you basically!

Lol I actually love my phone despite all the things I point out about it that aren't likable.

No one seemed to answer me yet though, how does the Hero and Magic suffice with the browser and cache's?

Just curious... where are these white water damage stickers? Does the Dream have them too?

I have a G1 that I accidently dropped into two feet of sewer water. I got it out and dried it off. I tried using the phone, but the screen would register my touch in the wrong place and I couldn't unlock it. I turned it off and took out the battery. The stickers didn't show having gotten wet so I let the phone completely dry out and it has been fine now for over two months.

rice absorbs water , water absorbs salt :)

Surely you mean salt is soluble in water. Salt still absorbs water. It's so good at this in fact that it'll even pull atmospheric water out of the air - that's why you get lumps in your salt if you leave a bowl of salt outside, even in dry weather. If you put the phone in a bowl of salt it would certainly dry it out... and destroy it at the same time...

The point of not putting your phone in a bowl of salt is still entirely correct though - do NOT do this! Salt will get inside your phone and the salt will absorb atmospheric moisture, eventually leaving a salty condensation inside your phone which will completely destroy the exposed metal parts (electronics) of your phone.

Just so long as you know that I never try to correct people in an attempt to make myself look better. It's more a case of...

It was just Break where I saw it. Somebody just submitted it there and they automatically tag uploaded images with their logo. I agree - credit is due to the original author. I'm going to be reading xkcd all day now!
