It's been forever since the last time I was at this forum...

For people who know me, I was planning to sell my G1 since beginning of summer but I never did. There was one job I was hoping to get but they end up not hiring me.

So now I am finally going to sell it. I will end up leaving T-mobile and go to MetroPCS.

Only one problem, I accidentally crack the screen on my G1.

So I am going to claim it on my insurance and get a new G1. This is going to be my last time I can do this since I did it once before in January when I fell in the pool on New Years day.

Now my question...

My current G1 is rooted so when I get a new G1 though my insurance, it will be un-rooted of course. So should I root the G1 and than sell it or should I not do it and keep it as is and sell it?

I am no hacker and the reason I ask this is I worry I might mess up the G1 and than I will not be able to sell it.

This poll will last 3 days.

Thanks for all your votes! :)

The total votes from all the forums I asked this question is the following...

Yes - 8
No - 6

I just called the insurance and I should get my new G1 on Wednesday. I thought the replacement will be free since I still have my cracked screen G1 but it turns out that I have to pay $130 for it. WTF?!?!

The last time I replace my G1, I didn't have to pay anything and it was water damaged.

It seems the last time I replace the G1, the person made a mistake and did not charge me for it.

The only way you get free phone is if the phone malfunctions. For example, what will be covered under warranty.

Now I wondering if I made the right decision or maybe I should have sold the phone as is.

I think this will be my last time I am going to buy insurance for cell phones. Now the only advantage you have is you get a replacement quickly or you have a new released phone. Otherwise, it's not worth it since you could get a replacement on Ebay.

Anyway, once I get my phone, I will root it and maybe I will get unlock code for it too.

i didn't vote, but depending on where you sell it perhaps you could ask the seller which they want?

$130 is a little steep for a g1 replacement. but the insurance works in tiers, most touch screen smart phones being in the highest tier. you'll always pay 130 for replacement in the highest tier. i just got a touch pro 2. i'll gladly pay 130 over the actual because this phone will never be on ebay for anything near that price. the g1? you might get it for slightly more than the insurance on ebay. but not the tp2. i really doubt you'll see it in a year going for under 300 bucks. so for me, the insurance is well worth it. i couldn't even sell my g1 here lol. sad. family member is using it until i decide if i want to put it on ebay or not.

That's what I noticed. The price has not gone up that much. I saw a G1 on Ebay one time with 2 AC adapters and car charger and it sold quite high.

I am having 2nd thoughts about rooting it to CM4.0.4 because it involves more steps to do it. Currently, the phone is rooted to JF RC30

jfrc30 is way to old of a rom to consider selling the phone with . no one will want it . remember , the latest is the greatest . you want to sell you phone , dont you ?

Well, it's sold. Not as high as I want it to be but considering there's couple of new Androids phones out today and some coming out soon, I could see why I did not sell it very high.

I also have couple of rules on who could bid on it so that's kind of a given that it may not go very high. Just in case you wondering why I have those rules is because I had bad experience in the past and one buyer who stole money from me in the past.

Couple of things to learn here...

1 - If I cracked the screen and I have to pay for a replacement, I should have just forget about it and sell it as a broken phone.
2 - Turns out the person who won the auction is a member of a forum that hack and mod cell phones. So it would have made no difference if I have rooted it or not. I would have sold it around the same price anyway.

Anyway, thanks everyone who showed interest in buying my phone.

The deal fell though because of my fault so it's back on Ebay but it's now UN-rooted BUT it does have the latest official Android OS 1.5 cupcake update. It now on 3 day auction.
