k i want to root my t mobile g1 , there are too many threads with slightly diff methods to accomplish this , is it safe to do the one click root , or should i go the traditional way , also wich build should i go with , im kinda confused
first of all i don't have a data plan so i wonder if this is an issue when flashing
second this is my everyday phone so i do want a stable build
third wut do buidls do different or better than others
the main reasons i want to root is for apps to sd , multi touch , and if possible to change the color of the task bar ,im not sure of wich builds have wut features , i am new to this , so if sumone cand kinda point me in the right direction with all that would be needed for wut i am lookin to do
FIRMWARE :1.5
BUILD CRC1
I WILL BE GLAD TO SUPPLY MORE INFO OF MY PHONE IF NEED BE THANX IN ADVANCE

All you need
I would recommend the standard rooting method, that way you will understand the process and can easily unroot your phone if you decide to. Cyanogen's latest build is very stable & fast.

Sigh scratch all that, to get a THEM* [I went on about a rom] just go to xda devs and click themes, make sure its compatiable with the rom your using, download, then flash. Multi touch comes with most roms. You don't really need to change builds but if you want you wipe and flash.
alt + w
then
alt + s
You will loose your apps.
You must go to the market first thing after it boots.
Always preform a nandroid back up.
Head over to xda-developers.com and go to forums
Click the g1 [Dream] then go to Devolopement and pick a STABLE Cyan ROM! Then download it, rename it to - update - just the word update none of those -'s I added to space the word out. Just update.
Then put it on your sd card, be sure not to put it in a sub folder or anything.
The file you will have downloaded will be a compressed file [a .zip] this is how you want it, after renaming it to update put it on the sd card.
Unmount.
Let the sd card ready it self.
Turn the phone off.
Reboot it by pressing and holding home and power then create a nandroid backup [it should be a selection avilavle it will soon be done after about .................................................. .......... that many periods.
Then hit ALT + S and select the home button to confirm the action.
This will flash that .zip folder and give you a cyan rom which will have multi touch.
It should work, if it doesn't just restore the nandroid backup and no harm done.

Yes, you need to look for something that's compatible with your build. Just be sure to do a nandroid backup before you flash a rom. That way you can go into the recovery and restore your rom if something goes wrong. Cyan's 1.4 recovery is about the best out there and it's compatible with jf builds. You may already have it, but if you don't here's the link.

If you have Cyan recovery 1.4, with the phone turned off hold the home and power button together until you get to the recovery console. Use the trackball to go down to nandroid backup, select it by pressing the trackball. After it is complete it will ask you to reboot. If you need to restore, you can do it from the same console. Don't know about orientation on the glossy suite. Wecome to the dark side.

you should get "advanced task manager" if you don't have it.
cyanogen's builds automagically move apps to sd if you have an ext partition.
tethering makes your phone a wireless router over cell networks. useful if there's no wifi and you have a laptop.
cyanogen rom handles multitouch. browser only, i believe.

No you don't have to partition to go to Cyan 4.0.4, you have to partition to have apps2sd. You can partition through the Cyan 1.4 recovery console.

did you install the superuser app from the market ? its free . when something asks for permission , after you install this app , give it permission(always allow permission)
