agreed, that is the main section I use to find interesting topics to read, well I used to but now its mainly full of spam threads, which to fair on the whole have been deleted, but the threads still show up in the whats new section.
I have never seen such a spam ridden forum, I know people are working very hard to delete the spam as it arrives but can't you implement a captcha system for posting new threads to prevent this?

You do... but they actually mean the "section" (of the screen) that is labeled "What's New"
Which is just the newest of the "new posts"

What section exactly are you talking about. I don't have anything that says "What's New."

Yes, you do.

It's the first thing you see when you hit the boards.

You dont' see the spam, because you mods or the system removed it. When a spammy post hits the board, it displays there. It continues to be shown after the thread/post is removed (temporarily). For about 10 to 15 minutes (I don't know how long the process is set to run), clicking the link will take you to a page notifying you that you have "clicked a non valid thread that may have been moved or deleted..."
Eventually, the process to clean and remove runs, and then the titles are removed from the "What's New" section too.

Oh, ok. That's weird because over 90% of spam is invisible to normal users. Seems like there's hardly any spam that isn't pre-filtered nowadays.

I agree, most of it is filtered now. I wonder, if for someone reason, that section isn't filtering it out. Let's keep an eye on it, DT, and see if there is some sort of glitch there that we need to fix. When I sign on in the mornings, there is usually quite a bit in the filter I have to delete. I will make sure to check tomorrow morning and see if it shows up there or not.

Scratch my previous post, DT. We just had a spam thread and sure enough, it did show up under "whats new." I am going to get with Ewdi about that and see if there is anything we can do to fix that.
Welcome back, JaceMan!

Yea its been pretty bad for awhile. In my computer class my teacher saw me on this site and one of the threads on the "Whats New" section was adult oriented. It took me a little while to convince him I was on a legit site :(

I'll try to keep an eye on it. Sounds like "what's new" needs to refresh more often, or something...ewdi?
Edit: Oh, good, you're going to talk to ewdi. Just saw that

Moderated threads should definitely not be visible to normal users. If they were, we'd be getting a lot more reported posts. Hmm. I'm pretty sure they're not visible...

After I posted I thought of that.

I'm actually pretty mad at all the mods taking that "spam" off, I'm always interested about cheap Viagra, meeting sexy singles, and giving out my social security number.
Hahaha :D

I was just passing through, and thought I would do a little educating. I'm disappearing back into the abyss now.

I know the mods can see the posts that have been moderated but I didn't think anyone else could. I logged out and the are visible.

Yeah, they aren't supposed to see them, but apparently they are. I have contacted Ewdi to see if something can be done about it.

Ewdi got back with me on this, he is going to see if he can re-code this so you guys don't have to see the spam under "what's new" anymore. That way, the pleasure will be left for just your wonderful AC staff.
