Seen this a few times and wondering if Cyanogens 4.1.7 does this automatically or is this something i have to do myself? Also, the benefits of doing this are?

download ta utility(cache2sd) from the market , its free . use it to move your major caches to your sd . :)

You should check out an app called "ta utility" on the market. it does cache to sd for u.
