With JF saying no more new roms, I was wondering what I should goto. I like it as it is however I don't want a white notification bar, it just stands out too much. I was thinking hero and cyron but not sure which to choose and why. Any help on this would be great, and please if giving instructions on how to do it, be as simplified as possible, it was hard enough to just get to JF on my own

it will be much easier now , after the initial rooting .
rename the rom(whichever you choose) to update , put it on the main part of your sd card , power off the phone , power on pressing the home and power buttons together , alt+L ,alt+s to update , reboot . thats it . if you run into a problem loading back up(stuck on android screen) , power off , home and power buttons together , alt+L , alt+w(to wipe) , alt+s , reboot .
personally , i stay with the latest cyan roms whatever it may be , stable or experimental . im on cyan 4.1.11.1 right now , and hopefully 4.1.12 tonight :)
here is a list of roms , i just noticed that that list need a little updating , but its 99% complete http://db.androidspin.com/android_build_information.asp

well great thanks, now i read somewhere about apps2sd not working for for cygan because its incorporated. Do I just remove that app before doing the flash? And does cygan's rom cover or color that annoying notification bar.

Delete that app. If your sd card is partitioned it will do it for you. If not you need to partition your sdcard. It dosent change the color of it but you can flash a theme ontop of the rom(name it update and flash it like a rom) and most of them have differnt colored notification bars. Hope this helps

I was in the same boat as gsokrispy3130, I was on JF's last update and had not tried out any of the newer stuff. I follows the instructions simms22 provided and it seemed to work out just fine. I was wondering however, does cyan 4.1.11.1 use a third partition on your SD card? I have not read fully about this, but something about a Linux swap partition? If so would this have been setup automatically and how would I know if it was setup properly? Thanks for the info!
From your experience are any of the hero roms worth checking out? Are they stable enough for daily use or simply a novelty at this point for G1 users?

Na , you don't need anything special . If you want apps2sd automatically , then you need an ext3 or higher . Besides for that , you will be fine . If you have an issue updating , just wipe and re-update :)

Thanks I was already running Apps2SD before so that seemed to be working properly. I just wasn't sure about the swap thing. Is the swap only something that is built into the Hero builds?

you can use swap on any build , but hero needs it more to run smooth

I am in the same boat. Is it best to just wipe or can I upgrade from jf to cyan?
Also if I wipe how does it work in regards to reinstalling apps I paid for? I don't have to pay again do I?
Thanks

Loading custom roms is a sin.
And themes are illegal.
Overall you're going to hell if you so much as touch your device.

Eh, I've done worse.
Okay, I tried upgrading to cyan but ran into a problem. I followed the directions here and got to step 6 (on Dream) and wiped. I didn't see an option for dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721.zip although I put it on my SD card, just an option for update.zip. I removed that file (it was JF 1.51) so I just wiped and now I'm back to JF 1.51. I can't seem to get past that step and install the one they mention.
Any suggestions? Now I've a wiped JF 1.51 lol
