Change default avatar in contacts

Hi folks,

I'm a prooooouuuud owner of a HTC Hero since a few days and I love that thing, It's the best phone I ever had! But I have a question relating to the persons/contacts:
Due most of my contacts don't use facebook, I have lots of people with this ugly default-avatar (this male silhouette pic). I want to use a much better one.

Does anyone knows where the default avatar is stored on the phone, and/or how to change it?

You can change it inside of Gmail.
While logged into Gmail just click on Contacts and click on the Person whose contact pic you want to update and upload a pic and save and it will update to you're phone.

This changes the avatar for this special person. But i want to change the default avatar, the picture a contact gets if he has no special assigned picture ;) i want to use the android as the default avatar ;)

Just get a pic of the android and upload it to use as default avatar for you're contacts without pics! :)

You mean upload it for each contact?? Hehe, funny guy ;)

I've installed an root-explorer yesterday and tried to find the picture in the /data-folder. But nothing :(

I think it's compiled into the app, damn :(

But just thinking about: Is there no skin folder to place skins into to change the whole design of the system? I remember my last phone (a Nokia) where you could download tons of skins to customize your phone.

Then maybe there would be the place to change this default icon ;)

i have a quick question, you said due to most of your friends don't have facebook, most of your friends avatars are "empty".

I was just wondering if youcan get an avatar for your contact from facebook...is there an app or something?

you can link your contact with an facebook account. if you edit a contact, you have the categories "information", where you enter the phone numbers 'n stuff, and the second category "social networks", where you can enter your friends facebook- and flickr-account to get his avatar and photo-albums.

I own a T-Mobile G2-Touch (HTC Hero) with Android 1.5. Maybe you have a different version?

Yes i think I have a different Version because I don't have a category "information". I own a t-Mobile G1 with Android 1.5

Sorry to rehash a dead topic, but this is driving me crazy.

I was playing with my htc Eris when I first got it, and I remember finding an option to change a contacts default photo to a female silhouette. This was months ago and now I can't find it again and it's driving me crazy. I know I saw it. Has anyone else found this before? Thanks!
