Thanks to Amon Ra , we have this full featured recovery for our Dream(G1) phones
this was taken directly from his xda thread . i did change the install to be done through terminal instead of adb . here is his full thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4647751#post4647751

This is a custom recovery based on Cyanogen's v1.4 recovery.
The purpose of this recovery is to avoid using the console by accessing all features directly from the menu.

DO NOT USE the recovery command to return back from console to recovery! Use the reboot command instead! Some scripts (like nandroid) will not work properly if you do so!

Features

full ADB access in recovery mode
Busybox
Extended menu (with keyboard-shortcuts):

Nandroid v2.2 backup and restore
Regular update.zip flash
Flash any .zip from your SD-card
Console
Wipe data + cache (factory reset)
Wipe ext partition on SD-card
Wipe Dalvik-cache on SD-card (NOT on /data !)
Partition SD-card : 500MB Ext2, 32MB Swap, remaining Fat32
Partition SD-card : Only Fat32
Repair ext filesystem
Convert ext2 to ext3
Fix package UID mismatches
Fix auto-rotate issues
Toggle USB-Mass storage on and off

Scripts available from console :

BART v0.9.2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4569600&postcount=1) (Backup and Restore Tool) : enter "utility" to start.
switchrom.sh V1.1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4209412&postcount=1) : enter "switchrom" to start.
sdparted v0.5.3 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4259325&postcount=1) : enter "sdparted" to start.

thats the idea , to make it easy . you dont have to go into console and type out the commands . it does the partitioning for you , backup/restore the ext partition , wipes the partition , etc . plus that switchrom is pretty cool :)

I have this version and the same version but for the HTC Hero on both of my phones and I love it!!
No complaints here (It's based off of Cyan's and JF recovery anyway so it's good to go!)

On a side note, thank you simms for creating this thread! (One less thread I have to maintain) :D

Can you get into console in this version? I remember before that you couldn't and thats why people still stuck with Cyan's. However if it has console now than it is definitely an improvement.

Yes and you can do a whole lot more on this recovery. I think I'm going to stick with it until Cyan does an upgrade on his recovery.

OK, I finally decided to check out this recovery, but for only 1 reason only. I want to test out the Roms Switching. I been dying to check out hero and see what all the hype is about. So, if I'm correct, I should be able to have both Cyanogen's 4.1.11.1 AND wichever Hero Rom I choose, and switch back and forth?

i just used a feature of this recovery that saved me some headache . i am flashing cm 4.1.999 . so i need to flash the adp 1.6 . after i wiped , i realized i deleted the copy i had off my sd . so , while still in recovery , with one press i enabled usb mass storage and put it on my sd :)

Griemar
10-06-2009, 11:39 PM
woot! Hmm, I wonder how many Roms you can switch between. I would think it's only limited by the size of your SD. If that's the case, 4.1.11.1, Hero (not sure wich one yet) AND 4.1.999 to test out :D

Griemar
10-07-2009, 02:14 AM
Hmm, I seem to have a issue. I have a fresh 8Gb SD card in and running cyanogen's 4.1.11.1. When I try to run the back up, i get the following error:

Error occurred during storing of app data...
tar operation failed.
Do you have enough space on the /sdcard?

As far as i know, I should have enough space. Only have 3 apps installed.

ok, switchrom is awesome. i stored cyanogen 4.1.11.1, installed blur hero 1.5.7, played with that overnight, stored it, and restored cyanogen w/ all settings intact.

if i run sdparted v0.5.3 from Amon Ra's Recovery v1.2.3 , which of the 2 methods do i apply?

GOAL: fresh start, wipe 8gb SD clean, end up with 8gb microSDHC with swap=32M ext4=512M fat32=remaining free space

SDparted v0.5.3 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4259325&postcount=1)

METHOD 1

STEP 1. Turn off phone
STEP 2. Put into Recovery mod [Amon Ra's Recovery v1.2.3] by holding "HOME+END" key
STEP 3. GO TO CONSOLE
STEP 4. press ENTER then type "sdparted"
STEP 5. type "mount /sdcard"
STEP 6. then type "mv /sdcard/sdparted.txt /sbin/sdparted"
STEP 7. then type "chmod 755 /sbin/sdparted"
STEP 8. last step is to type "sdparted -efs ext4"
STEP 9. type "reboot" from console
-phone will reboot normally like i originally had it with the flashed 4.0.4 CMrom & work properly. Then i just drag the existing files that I copied on my desktop back onto my SDcard?

OR

METHOD 2

STEP 1. Turn off phone
STEP 2. Put into Recovery mod [Amon Ra's Recovery v1.2.3] by holding "HOME+END" key
STEP 3. GO TO CONSOLE
STEP 4. press ENTER then type "sdparted"
STEP 5. type "sdparted -efs ext4"
STEP 6. type "reboot" from console
-phone will reboot normally like i originally had it with the flashed 4.0.4 CMrom & work properly. Then i just drag the existing files that I copied on my desktop back onto my SDcard?

QUESTIONS

QUESTION 1: Are my steps correct considering i'm using SDparted from the Amon Ra's Recovery v1.2.3?, IF NOT may you please list the correct steps.

QUESTION 2: On this step "mv /sdcard/sdparted.txt /sbin/sdparted" is that correct because i've also seen "cp /sdcard/sdparted.txt /sbin/sdparted" ?!?! Which is correct?!?

QUESTION 3: Is that all i do? Meaning I've wiped the card clean because once i start sdparted v0.5.3 it automatically wipes it &by applying those steps I now have an 8gb microSDHC with swap=32M ext4=512M fat32=remaining free space on my microSDHC card, correct?

QUESTION 4: Is it alright if i'm using a SANDISK 8gb microSDHC class 2 card? I plan to get a A-DATA or TRANSCEND 8gb microSDHC Class 6 this weekend.

I would just use these options that automatically come up on the recovery but i'm not quite sure what order or steps to do the process.

-Wipe ext partition on SD-card
-Wipe Dalvik-cache on SD-card (NOT on /data !)
-Partition SD-card : 500MB Ext2, 32MB Swap, remaining Fat32
-Repair ext filesystem
-Convert ext2 to ext3

If you would like to help in using these STEPS over using the STEPS in console to use the SDparted script please be free to HELP and list the steps.

CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP, DETAILED INFORMATION WOULD BE GREAT. POST A REPLY OR SEND A MSG. THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Hi I tried the method shown on Android and Me

http://androidandme.com/2009/08/news/how-to-manually-partition-your-sd-card-for-android-apps2sd/

It shows with pictures and commands each step in details.

So if like me you just wanted to convert ext3 to ext4 you can

by applying -Wipe Dalvik-cache on SD Card (NOT on /data !) what exactly does this option do? is it safe to do it? or apply only when neccessary?
