B. freakin S.
There are so many variables to that scenario. I could be freakin president by 2012 too. The world could end in 2012. Android will never pass Apple's OS until they stop putting it on junk hardware. I love the OS but almost a year after the debut there are still only rumors about hardware that befits it.

I also agree that the hardware quality will keep Android from reaching its full potential.

Junk hardware? Yea its true we could use some more internal memory, but the HTC Hero's specs are comparable to the 3GS, slightly lower and some areas and slightly higher in others. Add in the fact that next year we are getting those tegra chips in phones like the HTC Dragon and I don't see how you can say that Android is only on junk hardware.

This I agree with. Theres talk that Apple's exclusive contract with AT&T is almost up and the iPhone will be available on multiple carriers.

I could see Android pulling this off, but its going to be a tough race.
Eventually, the Iphone is gonna be able to multi-task (maybe)
and if it goes to multiple carriers, look out.
Windows has its new OS in the mix now too.
But so long as android can get itself on some beefy hardware that can really show off what its capable of w/o bogging down, i can see it taking the lead. Especially if the devices have nice QWERTYs
