I currently have a family plan, so I'm trying to stay with TMobile, but $199 for the CLIQ doesn't seem right when I compare its hardware to comparable hardware and the current costs of those phones.

It sill has 480x320 and on a 3.1 inch screen

It's using a Qualcomm 528MHz cpu

It only has 256MB onboard storage

Battery life is.. average?

I'm just not seeing the $200 value here.

If you want to compare phones, there's a nifty site I found that allows you to side-by-side compare handsets.

http://www.esato.com/phones/

I don't think the phone is bad, I think it has it's place, but I don't see it being a $199 phone. And to top it off, apparently Wal-Mart has dropped prices (http://www.androidcentral.com/wal-mart-drops-price-t-mobile-g1-4888-mytouch-3g-9888) of T-Mobile G1's to $48.88 and myTouch 3G to $98.88. So is the CLIQ worth $200 when the G1 is only $50?

Hopefully things align properly by the time the phone is available for purchase on the 19th (October, 9).

Well with the in fluctuation of new devices being released before the end of the year older models usually get their prices slashed and YOU pay to have the newest devices currently available, but as soon as more devices are released after the Cliq you will see it's price drop also.
So you're always gonna have to pay to have the newest toys on the block! (I'm sure you know this already) :)

i would definitely wait, or go with a G1 or mytouch if you can get one cheaply, since T-Mobile is going to be rolling out better devices.

Definitely NOT. Same device is selling in europe for 1 euro on contract or 150 euro unlocked without contract. That's ~$220 without having to sign a 2 year contract.

$200 + 2 year contract is definitely too much to pay for the CLIQ.

If you were an accountant you would understand why it costs so much. Think about all the man hours it took to develop the phone, to buy the patents, pieces, and everything else. It takes a lot of money to produce a phone and the Cliq has that new desktop software which they are selling also.

A company cannot produce a NEW phone and then sell it for the price of a 1 year old phone. Its simply ludicrous to even think it would happen. So either 1 buy the G1 and save some money or 2 get the Cliq and suck up it up. No one is going to give you the phone for less simply b/c you think its overpriced.

At Walmart you can get a G1, new number, with 2 year contract for less than $50 or a MT3G for less than $100.

The Cliq isn't worth it. Just buy a g1 for cheap [200 ish or less] and here at AC we'll take care of you and help you get your G1 to run the same interface as the Cliq.

I don't think companies should push out new anesthetics on old hardware that wasn't that good to begin with, so as far as the htc tattoo or Motorola cliq go, just load the roms on your g1 and save money.

I gave you two options and it seems everyone says go with option 2. Buy the G1. I would actually say do with what you have and wait for one of the dragon phones that will be out some point in the future. For sure they will blow everything else out of the water. Heck you could wait until end of december of january and get the awesome Nokia they are talking about.

the big thing I would wait for is something with far better battery life. The iPhone and G1/android phones all have crappy batteries.

I don't know that I agree. I have the G1 and love it, but got my hands on the Motorola Cliq this morning, and it feels really solid. Deffinately alot quicker and snappier then my G1, and when compared to my girlfriends mytouch, it still "feels" much faster. Keyboard rocks.

I was going to wait until one of these 1ghz snapdragon phones comes out, but I liked it enough to try and steal it from my friend this morning.

And I had plenty of time to play with it. The susan b komen walk was this morning in dallas and I played with it the whole walk. I tried to lose my buddy in the crowd. She wasn't having it.

If you like qwerty keyboards, I'd definately consider the Cliq over the G1, especially if T-mobile is really doing this "financing" phones crap for the Project Dark thing. $200 spread out over 20 months is only $10 a month.

I would wait for the N900 that I'm thinking is coming sooner than later. I have a couple friends that are salesmen for Tmobile corporate and they went to a Nokia/Tmobile convention where they actually had a raffle and gave away a bunch of N900's. It's coming out, and it will be the best phone on the market.

I saw a video on Phonedog putting it through its paces. Phone stuttered, and lagged horribly, and this was how it performed straight out the box. So my answer would be no.

I would just goto either Sprint or Verizon and get a better Android device now to use over a better data network, NOW rather than waiting around on T-Mobile.

Don't be silly the phone was SYNCHRONIZING the WHOLE VIDEO all 9 minutes of it with Google and his account such as Calendar events, Gmail, and contacts.

So thats excusable that the phone needs 9 minutes to sync? Anyway, I'll reserve any future comments about performance until I see more footage, or mess around with one myself. I still stand firm on my comment about leaving T-Mo for Sprint or VZW though.

Think about it buddy, it's Noah from Phonedog.com I'm sure he's got more emails, contacts, and events then you have in your entire life. When my phone sycns it doesn't take long at all but its understandable Noah's does.

I've played with the roms on my phone and they all have a smooth quality about them. I think its Dessertopping that said how he doesn't care about what the videos show he wants to try them out on his own, you should too,.

LOL, I'm more a celeb than Noah, but I digress, my popularity is more physical than virtual, so you're probably right.

Having your phone drag ass while syncing doesn't sound like allotta fun, HOWEVER, assuming it ran flawlessly, I still couldn't recommend dropping 200 for it when the Hero, Moment, and possibly the Droid will all be in that same price range on better networks no less.
