Did you wipe before the installation. If you did not there is your problem.

Do you have EXT4 for apps2sd? This will also kill your apps.

If you have anything under EXT4 you must upgrade it!

An ext3 is perfectly fine. Try and run fix_permissions from your terminal console. I didn't have to repartition and everything is fast with no lag what so ever.

Which did you flash? Did you do the one from XDA you posted earlier today or did you flash the HTC recovery and then Cyan 4.1.999?

Well according to Cyanogen and the other guys you should have EXT4 and do a wipe to ensure your phone is not hurt later on. It can cause problem with apps and google apps and cause a number of issues. Hopefully you all end up fine but I know I have learned to follow Cyanogen's instructions to the T.

4.1.999 is extremely fast as most of you have noticed. It really pushes your phone and that is why you want ext4. You need everything running at 100% if you want to keep it up and running.

After I upgraded to 4.1.999 my phone was so slow it was almost unusable. After about 3 wipes I finally read about going to ext4. Now its lightning fast.

Free and easy way to partition

You can use an ext4 with Cyanogen roms, but he has never recomended it in any of his roms.

attempt 1 = installed with out wipe = lag
attempt 2 = install with wipe = lag applications even after fix permissions

i hacve ext 2 with 100 apps , i did not wipe my ext, 4.1.11.1 is so much faster

ggrant3876
10-14-2009, 11:45 AM
Really don't know what to say, I have an ext3 with no wipe of any kind and just as fast as 4.1.11.1. If you have Cyans 1.4 recovery you can upgrade your ext2 to ext3.
7. How do I convert to Ext3?
Reboot into recovery (home + power), drop to a console (Alt+x), and enter: "upgrade_fs". Reboot and you will be at ext3. This requires my recovery image listed above.
Not sure it will help but worth a try.

Honestly how many times do I or someone else have to say it. Cyanogen does say EXT4 on XDA if you talk to him or really read. On XDA where I usually post there was not a single person who has had lag if they listened to Cyanogen. You need to WIPE AND HAVE EXT4!!!

Anyone can do Ext4 and it takes no time what so ever. 4.1.999 is BLAZING fast as it pushes your phone further than any other ROM. It is like lightning. I have had it for some time now and its amazing, you click on something and boom its there.

Just listen and do a wipe and get EXT4. You will not regret it. Ext4 is better so you should want it anyways.

I am running an ext3 and it's blazing fast. Find a link for the Cyan rom, from the man, that says to use ext4. When you find?, post it here. This is from binary 100100, senior member at xda. don't know if I'd recommend ext4. There really is no difference as far as performance goes between ext3 and ext4. Not that I can tell personally. I switched to ext4 just to try it out and I am pretty dissappointed. Just my opinion though. I would recommend ext3 because the majority of the ROMs out there support it. Not all support ext4 (like the old crc1 roms) yet but it's getting there.

Been on his roms since before 3.6.2, read his threads religiously. Have seen others recomend ext4 but never him. I'm not going to argue about this anymore, if you think ext4 fixes the problem so be it. The increases from ext3 to ext4 are so
negligible they don't make that much difference.

I am not arguing that. I am simply saying that many times when someone is having lag they simply upgrade to EXT4 and its fixed.

I had extreme lag when I went to 4.1.999 . Wipe didn't help , wiped the ext partition and didn't help , I went to ext4 and didn't help . Only when I repartitioned my sd , that helped . Now I am running 4.1.999 perfectly , silky smooth . I'm on ext3 , and ran on ext2 for a day without any issues what so ever . Cyanogen never has stated that ext4 is needed , only a minimal of ext2 for apps2sd .

Hrmm, so I tried to upgrade using these instructions and ran into problems.
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Upgrading_From_Older_CyanogenMod_Versions

I'm coming from Cyanogen 4.0.1 (on a G1)so I had to upgrade the recovery image to 1.4, but after following those instructions without a wipe my phone was EXTREMELY laggy. So I tried it again with a wipe, and then my phone would never connect to the network so I couldn't sign in.

The next step would be to wipe my ext3 but I felt like I'd be better off just running a nandroid backup and going back to 4.0.1. Did anyone else have similar issues?

Thanks!

Yea i had the same problem, i went from JFK 1.5ADP to CMrom 4.0.4[stable] to flashing CMrom 4.1.999 but i was having MAJOR LAGG issues like i wasn't able to do anything, it took forever just to load up home screens and even when i just clicked settings it took like 2 min to display the options, it was terrible. Most likely it has issues to do with partitioning &your SDCARD, best advice would to wipe your SD and do the partitioning all over again, partition to EXT3 or EXT4 and the rest FAT32 and you should be solid, then try flashing 4.1.999. As for me i just went back to 4.0.4 and i'm waiting for a stable version of Cyanogen's custom tweeked rom with 1.6 DONUT included. But news of update 2.0 Eclair just arised so who knows when that will be out soon. It would be a major jump from when Android first started it's a whole new jump from 1.0 now to 2.0 with all the little fixes inbetween. So i'm going to wait for a stable 4.1.999 Cyanogen.

Question.

I was on 4.0.4 and the phone started freezing on me. Just freezes and becomes completely unresponsive. To reset I have to pull the battery. Now this had happened about once a day for the last week, but today I had to pull about 12 times. Now 4.0.4 was working well until I tried to go to 4.1.99. That was too laggy and buggy so I restored my nandroid backup. So for the past week I was living with the occasional battery pull.

Tonight, I tried to go to 4.1.9999, and now it freezes on me during the initial sign in process, "SIGNED IN! SLIDE KEYBOARD BACK TO CONTINUE". It does not get past this screen.

I'll do a Nandroid restore to get operational, but that level of operability was pretty weak.

I have AmonRa's recovery, but I only did one wipe prior to the two flashes.

ADDITIONALLY, I try to get to the recovery boot screen now after I pull the battery and the phone wont let me. Still goes right onto the Welcome to TMO G1 Android screen, where it proceeds to lock where I mentioned previously.
Any ideas?

****. I get an ERROR PERFORMING RESTORE! TRY RUNNING 'NANDROID-MOBILE.SH RESTORE' FROM CONSOLE!

The **** has hit the fan!

Hi, I flashed to 4.1.99 then .999 then .9999. then went back to 4.1.11.1

I tether my netbook to my G1 and starting from .99 I lost tethering but now that I am back all is well. I like 1.11.1 better. I hope 4.2 will be better or at least the tethering with root issue, important to me. Its also faster then PDAnet, which I also use for Linux.
