View Full Version : Send SMS by hitting enter

Hello,

I have a HTC Hero from Sprint.
I was wondering what i had to do to be able to send my text messages from hitting enter. Mostly because when I am in landscape mode its a pain in the butt to have to put down the keyboard and then hit send. Rather than just hitting send without having to minimize it.

This is odd... last week there was a thread that had the opposite problem - where they were fed up of the fact the enter key on the keyboard is right next to the backspace key, so they found themselves hitting send every time they made a mistake and wanted to correct something.

I don't know about on the Hero - but on my G1 if I have the keyboard out then hitting Enter sends the SMS message. If I have the keyboard closed and using the virtual keyboard then the send button is on the screen there for me to press.

Handcent SMS is a good SMS application that supports a hell of a lot of features that the standard messaging app does not have, including the ability to configure the behaviour of the Enter key. You can have Enter to send the message, or Alt+Enter to send.

I have a G1 but i would imagine the messaging application is similar. Open the messaging application and press Menu --> Settings --> Send on Enter. And like extorian mentioned, Handcent SMS and ChompSMS are great replacements with many, many additional options that the default app doesn't have.

That's odd TheBlur - I'm on a G1 too (still Cupcake) and don't have that option in the standard Messaging app.

It's because a dev came along and modified the mms/sms app to have such a features, guess you just flashed a rom that hadn't included it yet. and I'm still on 1.5 too

Well it's an obvious option to add. The number of time's I've gone to hit Backspace and hit Enter by mistake and sent the message half completed with a mistake in it is unbelievable.

Lol I personally use Handcent. Really like the way it displays the contact photo and you can customize the bacground and text colors.

Haha good to know I guess. i just assumed that it came with the default messaging app. Not that I really care either way because i use ChompSMS.
