this makes me sick. if any cell provider doesn't deserve to link its name with the word "open," it's verizon. we all know their track record of crippling hardware with their bs software, and nickel & diming its customers for phone extras & data use. now they're going to roll out android with a slick marketing campaign, and act like they're saving you from a locked down device?? what a bunch of hypocrites.

that silly countdown clock won't be hard to decipher, btw.

This is an awesome commercial! I don't care if its for verizon, cricket, boost whatever. Android is becoming more known and being taken more serious, makes me happy to the development of Android.

Now, c'mon T-Mobile drop a bad ass android device for us please, we are behind other carriers android devices.

it feels like like i'm being told that satan is is mixing up some delicious kool-aid.

...mmm...tasty.

why couldn't they just call it "android"? ...because some marketing knob thought "droid" sounds more hip, or edgy, or snazzy, or supercalafragalisticexpialidocious, or wtf-ever-advertising-babble-term.

i despise verizon.

If it's from Verizon the keyboard is probably disabled.

That's exactly what I was thinking, it is a nice ad be verizon and open has nothing to do with each other, might as well call apple open too.

Well, having never been on Verizon, I don't have the strong negative feelings others apparently do.

However, I WILL give 'em props for using what I think is a great name! It is instantly recognized as being an Android phone, as opposed to, say, myTouch (stupid name), which tells users NOTHING!

I'll also give 'em props for telling non techies why they might want to consider an Android phone, over the iPhone.

You can CUSTOMIZE IT??? You can put a back plate on it with a picture of flowers, or baseballs, or whatever??? Wallpapers? Yeah, teens may like that, but business people? Blackberry users or iPhone users? I don't think fancy backplates and wallpapers will convert them over.

Come on. There's a LOT more to like about an Android phone over an iPhone, and frankly, I don't think T Mobile does a very good job of pointiing those things out.

I think, in that ad, Verizon hit the nail on the head, and pointed out most major advantages!

I don't hate Verizon but they are extremely restictive, but finally someone has the balls to go after the iphone tmobile shouldve did that from day one.

Same thing I was thinking. An Android device on the nations largest carrier will really help to push the popularity of the platform. Look at how popular the Storm was despite it being, for lack of a better word, Crap. Verizon subscribers who were unwilling to switch to AT&T, and don't want another WinMo phone will flock to that thing.

I recently ditched T-Mo for Sprint, but even I'm at least partially considering it. 70 bucks for everything is hard to pass up though.

ok, i'm glad android is growing, and if verizon starts treating their customers better, that's good news. i'm bitter over a nice phone that was basically lobotomized by verizon's OS, and the fact that they wanted to milk my wallet like a dairy cow. maybe android will get them to change their business strategy.

On a dorky sidenote... did anyone notice who did the "droid" marketing? In the fine print on the page it gives props to Lucasfilm for the logo- I guess that is why it is so well-done.

I saw that commercial while sitting in between 2 iphone users, holding my g1. After the ad ended I cheered and they glared at me. :3 It made me feel all warm and fuzzy.

they probably had to note that because "droid" was a term used in the early star wars movies. the last good lucas film was episode 5, and he didn't direct that.
