Is the new layout a journey or a destination?? I, for one, don't like not being able to see all the HTC Hero threads grouped in one place. I don't want to HAVE to click on a thread to see what handset it refers to (if it's not mentioned in the thread's title). Lastly, I just don't 'get' the new layout as an idea because you couldn't say it's either easily navigable or intuitive.

With more handset coming out to the market, the forum will be very messy, tomorrow we will be adding Handset brand tag, so when you create a new thread you can select which handset it is (Under HTC forum there will be G1,Hero, MyTouch, and etc) and readers can filter it too.

Wow ewdi. Great job.

PS Im glad you likes my idea about tagging certain posts and being able to filter by tags. Much like Gmail! :) You rock!

Thanks, yeah it would make everyone's eye happy and not have to read the entire thread to know which model they are reading about :)

Keep the suggestions coming Skattubrain! Thanks

and ewdi I wanted to add that my comments were about the sub-forums in transition (before the site got new theme). Now, I think AC looks so good - sleek and crisp...and loads so fast it's unbelievable! A huge well done!

Except filtering doesn't work (yet? Or will it only work on new posts created with the handset tag?).

G1 filtering shows no results.

Searching for G1 in HTC handsets doesn't seem to work either.

This looks like a bad idea regardless of the number of HTC handsets as all the old posts are lost in a (much bigger) sea of irrelevant info.

It is only for new threads, because old posts has not been tagged with the filter selection

Oh, I thought that the existing threads from the Hero sub-forum (going right back to what, May or June?) would be available once the new theme was up and running fully. I'd have thought that the existing knowledge would be helpful to new users - does the same apply to G1 posts?

Yes, it apply to G1 posts and all the handsets. the thing is when there are 20 handsets by HTC, the forum will be hard to navigate and harder to read.

ewdi, I might be being completely stupid but are you saying that, hey presto, the whole handset-related posting history of the Android Community Forums is gone forever???

Not at all, all of them are under the handset forum and categorized based on manufacturers (moved to that forum). Again, all the posts are still there

Ok, well I'm going to seem as thick as short planks here but...

if I want to find simms22's post about where to leave a space in a load of code following command prompt....

or if I want to read back on how Dr Veronica did with unrooting her phone...

or if I want to find my own post with a workaround for Windows 7 and HTC Sync...

how do I go about finding 'em in the newly themed site??

Plus, if I was a newcomer, I wouldn't even know these posts exist.

Search tool. add simms22's name to the user field, and keywords

we use full-text string and conditional on the forum. shouldn't be difficult to find things. and much faster than browsing a category

Another suggestion, can you make the links and hyper links a different color than the text, not just bold.

ewdi

all hyperlink are underlined

Ok, well I don't want to be an auld fella sittin' on the porch, talkin' about the good ol' days and impeding progress - especially since I only got here in August.

I've tried search and it works good-ish but I guess 'search' is for the 'now I need an answer fast' issues whereas browsing suggests a leisurely amble round AC and this seems now less possible with so much of history being stored in the basement.

I'm open to suggestions, but this is something we have to do to get the forum organized. Thanks for the thoughts and keep them coming
