Google Maps 3.2 (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SG1OZDW6) works on CM 4.1.9999
Here is an option to make a direct link-shortcut to an address from your homescreen. An icon will be created once you finish. By clicking the icon, it will go directly to Maps and generate directions within seconds depending on your connection:

YouTube.apk version 1.5.08 (http://depositfiles.com/files/6njbr8cht) works on CM 4.1.9999
The only new function I found on the youtube app is that you can start the camcorder from the app:

guys this is not installed like a regular app
Use that in terminal to install the app.
Use this code if you downloaded the file above straight from your phone.

cp /system/app/Maps.apk /sdcard/Maps.bak
mount -o rw,remount /system
cp /sdcard/download/Maps.apk /system/app/Maps.apk
Use this code if you put the app in the root of the sd card

cp /system/app/Maps.apk /sdcard/Maps.bak
mount -o rw,remount /system
cp /sdcard/Maps.apk /system/app/Maps.apk

Another way to install these apps is using Astro, it might not work with all apps.

1. Put the .apk on you sdcard.
2. Open up Astro.
3. Click on the app you want to install.
4. For Maps, press the upgrade button.
5. For other apps press the install button.
6. If the app does not update, try a reboot.

Actually, I installed like any other apk and it works fine.

I'm on mobile so I can't post screenshots but you can setup a homescreen short with direct link to maps with directions to any pre defined destination from your current location...

From homescreen:
Add, shortcuts, destinations... and setup your destination.

It also has layers and now shows only an arrow instead of a dot and an arrow while on map view.

street view didnt work for me . i had to find the sholes dump on xda to get the Street.apk from it . i pushed it following vegans instructions above . i just replaced Maps.apk with Street,apk . it works now :)

Download almost done give those two a try and maybe more. They both worked but when we get a new update, alot more text entry.

people who got it to work, what are your running? I"m on Cyanogen 4.0.4 stable, and so far no luck, I haven't tried terminal yet, but I want to know if people are getting success on cupcake or donut.

I'm on Enom's TMO US 1.6 rom and it's not working for me.
I've tried ADB, Terminal, Root Explorer, etc... With no luck.
Maybe it's not working on His rom. (I thought it worked on all 1.6 roms) :confused:

I'm finding that a lot of people aren't getting it to work because of typing errors .
1. Watch the spaces and keep them
2. Maps.apk is spelled with a capital M
3. In the first line of the script , after you su , that's a Maps.bak at the end of the script , not a Maps.apk .

The 3 I got to install were map, street and youtube. I checked the versions before and after and they were the eclair versions. The apps only seem work on 1.6 and it only on certain roms.
I'm using Enom's TMO US 1.6 rom and it does not work. :(

OP should have have what apps work on 1.6 firmware and what roms these apps work with.

Btw , the photo editor gives you another option in your picture gallery . Open the gallery , pic a gallery , hit menu , hit multiselect . With multiselect you can delete many pictures at the same time . A feature that was missing before !

yea , the hello moto already got old . there are lots of new ringtones and some of the same . all the files are in .ogg . dont worry , they will play(probably only on cyans roms , his has flac support)

Ringtones are easy to add from any dump.
We can add sholes, blur, pulse, sprint hero, Whatever you like. :D

Alright , after some time to play with the ecclair maps , I have to say that its just awesome . I have been using the shortcut function . I set it up for my home address . Now , whenever I want , I press the shortcut and I get transit directions from where ever I am at that moment to my home . It has what train to take , which route is fastest , the next 3 trains from the actual time I'm checking . Or bus , walking dirction , and driving directions . From just 1 press of a icon on my homescreen . And its accurate ! Now , I really don't need to use it , just because I know the train schedule from the places I'm at . But I can see this coming in very handy for a tourist or when going into unknown areas .

If you already had them installed , they don't disappear . The google apps don't downgrade . And , btw , notxel put together a cm 4.2.1 with the three 2.0 apps , the nfl app from sprint , and the latest stericson lockscreen included ! Great job notxel ! Anyways , if you want a piecr of it , pm notxel :)

Quick question, I just installed the map.apk and street view is working
fine for me. I see a lot of people are also installing the street.apk, is this
because street view wasn't working for a lot of you or is this an upgrade?

well it was because steetview wasnt working for some. idk, i think you should just update, just to make sure, so you dont get any problems later

Same question. I read the entire thread and am still unsure as to the best method to install on a mt3g. Can I use the terminal emulator on the mt3g?

best way would be through terminal, or if you're lazy you can flash M_Blends theme which does it for you, once flash, maps and you tube should be permanent replaced

it wouldnt install with Astro for me said it couldnt be installed on phone, and tried it thru terminal, and getting do you have root question.. u know i got root.. smh

I had copilot installed but I thought it was to much for my little old G1. :o
I may need to try it on my Hero. :)

dude i used copilot live when i was up in Niagara Falls for my Sisters wedding a few weeks ago, and it came in handy.. no lag at all, and directions and everything was exact...
im trying to get the google maps navigation to work will play with it some more after the Yankees beat the phillies

I agree that it's nice, but I try to stay away from apps that take a strain on the G1's battery.
So I install all those apps on the Hero. :cool:

true, but when i needed it in the car i had the car charger with me.. now it wont install on cyan 4.2.3.1 says it cant load.. had no prob with 4.11.1.1 version... will keep trying..
the navigation is cool to have just in case you riding with someone somewhere and neither of you know where your going

Well, I nutted up and went for it. Got Maps and Street installed. I ended up using the terminal to make it work on my mt3g. For any other newbs, you need to type "su" in the terminal before you start the other commands in the second post.

By the way, Maps looks awesome. I'll try it out on my way to work tomorrow.

An update: I've lost my Nav function twice in the last couple of weeks. Probably due to updating to Cyan 4.2.5. Any way, I used the directions from the following link to make things work again.
