View Full Version : I'm LOVING the iPhone!

i now have the iphone 3gs and ive had it for 3 days now and i LOVE it! i originally had the g1 for a year and got tired of it. the iphone is such more polished than the mytouch 3g and g1. the interface is smooth as can be and everything is overall a lot faster. i was really skepical at first from switching because i loved android and loved all the phones for it but after messing around with the iphone i will probablly never come back. the iphone has far more better apps than android. the only advantage android has over the iphone is the widgets, but from that iphone blows android out of the water. so if anybody thinking about switching like i was a week ago...DO IT!!! you won't regret it!

lol, let's not beat iphone users with a stick, I think competition is healthy. Seeing what motorola did with cliq, responsiveness has changed so much since the g1. Again, iPhone is at 3.x OS, and G1 is not even 2.x of android yet. So Android is catching up fast, bery bery bery vast :)

? Google voice works perfectly on my iPhone ?

There is an easy solution to your dilema...which takes just as long to remedy as it did to root my android

I don't need to root my android for me to use google voice, there is an official app and it integrates into dialer / not as separate dialer

Get back to me with your "iPhone IS AWESOME!!!" rant when you can stay online in Google talk 24x7 irrespective of what you do on the phone, share your location with your buddies in Google Latitude, chat with your friends, browse the internet, check your email, use the awesome Google voice service, ALL while listening to Pandora music in the background. Then we can begin to talk.

And, Android is getting flash much before the iPhone, if ever. No more having to go to a computer to watch a flash video other than Youtube.

P.S.: - BTW, this comes from someone who gave the iPhone a shot by trying to use it for any practical purposes it's worth for about 3 months and gave up.

Latitude...got it
Push email...browse the internet all while listening to pandora...check (I can even go as far as updating facebook and twitter while doing any of the above)

Flash on a mobile device really isnt that great...even in firefox at home I have flash disabled.

...listen...I am far from a fan boy of any type, and im not trying to start a flame war. I use what works for me. I have boxes of G1's, iPhones, dash's, MDA's, sidekicks, blackberries, N95's...phones and beer are my two biggest hobbies on earth. I understand that this is an Android forum...but its pretty low for alot of people (not just here but on apple forums as well) to blatantly lie about what a competitors phone can and cant do just to win an argument.

Everyone over here is completely capable to hack their phones to the bones and make it do whatever the hell they want with it.

All that I mentioned can be done by a layman without even having to think about going out of their way to make their phone capable of doing anything.

Phones these days are mini computers now. You can make them do whatever you want with it. What's being discussed right now is the attitude of the companies we give our business to. Apple would never know people don't like such policies if their iPhones continue to sell in millions.

Anyway, there's no argument here, let alone any attempts to win it. Apple is the company for people who don't mind bending over for them. As for the others, we would prefer to continue supporting steps by companies which help advance technology and do not try to cripple it for the sole reason of making a few extra millions.

Imo the only things that OSX has over Android is polish and games. iPhone does have a speed advantage, but once you jailbreak to do things that Android phones do by default, the phone gets much slower. Also I'd bet that once we start getting those Snapdragon phones, Androids speed(while multitasking) will be as fast or even faster than OSXs speed(non jailbroken).

Also the OSXs superior polishing could be challenged. Personally I think HTC Sense utterly destroys the iPhone's UI. Everything is so smooth and looks glorious. Just the weather widget alone brings a smile to my face.

As for games, that really doesn't matter to me. Android has a GBA emulator (I think the iPhone has one too) which gives me the greatest mobile gaming library ever. Sure I might not have awesome 3D graphics, but for me the games for GBA are undeniably funner.

Bad timing buddy.

By all measure, Android 2.0 and the Droid look to lay the smack down on the iphone.

Seriously, have you read up on the new features in Android 2.0? Good god, my brain exploded.

And the droid will be THE fastest phone on the market (same Cortex A8 as the 3Gs BUT it also has a PowerVR 450Mhz GPU built in). The performance in gaming has been compared to the PSP.

I had an iphone, and I went in the other direction. Without Jailbreaking, using IM is a pain in the ASS on the iphone, pandora in the background... yeah right... no widgets (love the at a glance weather widgets).

You keep talking about what the iphone can do, but you forget to mention all the caveats.

Google voice implementation is terrible on the iphone. (sure you can say "but it's there")

Google latitude requires you to use safari for goodness sake. My friend has google latitude on his iphone... the last time he updated his location was 2 months ago! Mine.. the longest I've seen not updated is 5 minutes. So again, for you to say iphone has google latitude is bordering on lying.

IM staying connected 24/7... ONLY on a jailbroken iphone, you forgot to mention that.

Half the stuff you claim is only possible on a jailbroken iphone... and BTW, apple is trying to make jailbreaking ILLEGAL... and you're supporting them?

No. Sorry bud. I don't roll like that. You come here trying to sell a product, you make bold claims but neglect to mention the fine print. The iphone is without a doubt a good phone, but a lot of us here have had iphones and chose to move over to Android.

So please troll. Find yourself a new bridge.

...maybe your friend just has a life and isnt trying to track you down every 5 minutes...

...im+ and beejive are available in the app store and both will keep you logged in 24x7...no need for jailbreak whatsoever there

...90% of people on here who use both a Android phone and an iPhone are unlocked...which is not possible without jailbreaking. Aside from that...read the NY times...Apple already lost that case because they could not prove that jailbroken iPhone's have any adverse affects on the network.

Android 2.0 does look amazing and I will be once again...among the first to jump on that as well.

I am in no way trying to sell a product...I did not start with the "bold claims" only showed that the previous statments that were made were false.

I bet if you start an actual survey of G1 users...most you will find have come from sidekicks and have never owned an iPhone.

Guys, seriously, why does everyone feel the need to get so defensive? It is simply a matter of preference and what serves your needs best, in my opinion. The way people get so worked up, and feel the need to jump down others throats for expressing a preference would make you think they have personal ownership in that company and therefore must defend it to the death.

I love Android, I am excited about the future of Android, and, I have an Android phone and, right now, my primary phone happens to be an iPhone. I count on my phone to manage my entire life. And, for what I need to organize my life, the iPhone presently has a better offering of applications that meet my needs.

Not everyone is a super, mega, phone tech junkie like the majority of us on these forums are. The majority of people have no interest in rooting or jailbreaking their phones. They just want something that handles phone calls, emails, and other aspects of their life that are important to them. So, they base their phone choice on which one does that best for them. And that is okay.

So please, feel free to post your opinions about why Android is better than iPhone, or vice versa. But, do not feel free to bash and attack one another over ones choice of phone. Attack the idea, not the person.

By the way, I am NOT a troll, just in case anyone is thinking about calling me one too.

LETS KEEP THIS THREAD GOING :D i love android and i would never trade it for an iphone but i have decided to get an ipod touch just for the gaming. the iphone is OK at best but all the limitations it has, gets annoying very quick! yeah jailbreaking can take care of those things BUT we are talking about both phones out of the box being able to do all these things

can you add your own ringtones to select contacts? by plugging your phone into your PC, and dragging files to the phone?

Dont even get me started on this! using/making a ringtone on any phone is pretty much a basic task BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO not the iphone!!! you have to jump thru hoops just to make a simple ringtone!

It surprises me and doesn't surprise me that you use a iPhone over an Android phone.

On one hand, you're the community lead of an Android fanboy site (alot of "Staff" don't have android as their primary phone...). On the other hand, the iPhone is a lot more pleasant to use. It just works.

I was in the dark about the iPhone OS until I picked up an iPod Touch. After I saw how much better the browser, VK and other random little things were, it became more apparent to me that the iPhone (and siblings) are better than Android (it terms of general usability).

But, if I may quote my hero, Dylan, "The times are a-changing".

I had an iPhone for about 2 years unlocked with T-Mobile.

When my company switched to Sprint, I did as well, got two WinMo phones, both of which sucked.

My cousin (our IT guy) has been through hundreds of phones, including the iPhone, G1, pre, and now has the Hero. He is boasting that the Hero is the best phone he has ever used, and I too will know this in a few days when my Hero arrives.

I can't wait.

I am an apple fan, I have a year old (the new solid aluminum) macbook pro, but I am really looking for a phone that will surpass the iPhone. The iPhone was the best phone I have owned to date, hopefully that will soon change.

I just love how Apple can take something as commonplace on other phones like Cut and paste and video recording and call it revolutionary when they put it on an iPhone. Imo, the iPhone is playing catch-up with Android. I had an iPhone before the G1, never liked how boxed in it kept you.

wondercoolguy

I have the Iphone and the G1 and I switch between them every day depending on what I need the phone to do. The reason I bought an Iphone was because the quality of my video play back. I have an internet show that I show off to investors I want it to look it best. I love android it a far superior OS than the Iphone.

Currently if you are an Iphone user if you want to cusomize your ringtones you have to buy them. Android you do not. If you want to customize the look of your iphone then you have to void your warrenty to jailbreak the phone; android you do not.

I'm about to sell my iphone inpreperation of the next android phone for t-mobile. Not the cliq it looks stupid. IMO Hero should have been released over multiple carriers but the droid will just establish the androids dominance over iphone. The only reason iphone users brag about the iphone is because it's hip and trendy.

I can walk into a starbucks with my iphone and look like everyone else. Or I can actually go with an OS that doesn't try to nickel and dime me to do the simple things.

P.S I don't go to starbucks....
