Someone from the XDA posted this, I tried it and it works. You have to an .edu email for college.

I just wanted to share with my fellow AC community that if you have a .edu email address (a student address) you qualify for the student upgrade to either Windows7 Home Premium or Professional.
I'm upgrading tonight!! :D

I got my download link and code this morning. You'll need to use Google to see how to make an ISO, but it's not hard. The download is designed to go over the top of your existing operating system - NEVER a good idea.

Best *Free* software for making an iso image would be IMGBURN (http://www.imgburn.com/)
Very easy to use and works great!

Got it free at umsl 3 weeks ago it is amazing. Umsl is part of the msdn network so we get all microsoft products except office for free and normaly a month b4 release. Being a IS major has its perks

Note: The edu version will not accept the key they give you. It will tell you that it's for upgrading, not installing clean.
Oh well...where's that Windows Toolkit?

So...since I'm still using XP (yea, I know, old) cause I refused to take the plunge into a half baked OS like Vista. How do I get this deal?!

When I downloaded it, it downloaded as setup1.box and setup2.box, are you saying you converted this to an iso image? I tried using imgburn but it wouldn't pick it up.
I had to do the regular installation but I chose customer over upgrade which is supposed to not be a direct update to your current OS.

How many of you guys got your product key? I have received the confirmation email but there is no key there, nor in the order status page. I called digital river and they sent me an email with supposed key but nothing there...agghh

You don't. Win7 cannot be upgraded from XP. Just more evilness from Redmond, you'll either buy 7 or buy Vista to upgrade.
Of course, there are other ways to get it done, but Susan would kick my butt for mentioning it.

hmmmm to upgrade or not to upgrade THAT is the question
Who actually upgrades? I tend to reformat my HDD 2 or so times a year, so doing a fresh install is no biggie...
I've been playing with the win7 RC for a few months now... ::thumbs up:: it's worth upgrading imo

I did a clean install today because when I tried to upgrade it said my version of windows could not be upgraded (Windows Vista Ultimate)
So it told me to hit the back button and select Custom Install, which was a clean install which left the "Windows Old" folder on my C: drive.
Check the screenshot for the people that think you "can't have ADB access running Windows 7!" :D

I seem to recall hearing that if Microsoft finds you aren't currently a student after giving this discount they will charge you the rest of the full price for the software.
It was on consumerist, I think.
Just a thought.

I did a full upgrade from Windows Vista Ultimate x64 to Windows 7 Ultimate x64. ADB does work fine, however; I've found (at least on 64bit) that you need to install the drivers / remove the drives for the phone in order to do fastboot.
