Newbe here. Wondering how long before everyone can run the Android 2.0? I am looking at getting an Android phone but stuck at TMo for now. It really p!sses me off that VZW is already a generation ahead w/ the Motorola Droid and TMo can't do much about it.
So I am just curious if anyone knows how long it would be before everyone gets the update.
I really find it hard to believe that the vzw droid will have android 2.0 much longer than everyone else. I imagine as we get closer to the Nov 8 release date (or even the 28 advertisement date) google will release the 2.0 sdk and cyno or someone else will release a legal 2.0 build for G1.

tmo has the BEST selection of android phones around . when 2.0 comes around , it comes around (probably by the end of the year) . by then tmo will even have more android phones , running 2.0 ! verizons phone isnt out yet , so it not a generation ahead . most likely , 2.0 will come around not long after the droid is released . it just makes sense , why would developers be making applications for 1.6 AND 2.0 separately ?

I was thinking Google might have a contract w/ Motorola & Verizon that gives them exclusivity for... months?
I thought some phones still don't have 1.6 yet?
EDIT: The Cliq doesn't offer much over the MyTouch except the physical keyboard, which I like. But the VZW Droid has a LOT more plus the 2.0. The Behold 2 looks as good as the Droid but w/o the keyboard. I could be happy with the Cliq if I knew the 2.0 update wasn't too far off.

ive been running 1.6 for the past 2.5 month , officially its been out since 0ct 1st . i think , just like with the other updates , rooted phones will have access to 2.0 way before any official update comes out . btw , rooting is similar to jailbreaking an iphoney( ;) ) . as of now , some of us are already using a certain few apps that are going to be in 2.0 , mainly the updated maps app(insane !) and youtube .

He was talking about the droid specs. Not android specs. The droid kills all the other phones out there right now in terms of hardware specs.

I don't know how excited I am about the Cliq's custom ROM. I pay very little attention to most of my Facebook friends as it is.
But that's a good point about running custom ROM's. I just don't know how much tweaking I have time to do - or skills for that matter.

IF I root and run a custom ROM will it completely do away w/ Motoblur or TouchWiz?

I would assume so...The blur is a ROM itself, so if you overwrite it it would be gone. You would then have to flash that ROM back onto the device to get those features back.

Android 2.0 is roadmapped to be released at the end of 2009 or early 2010. So, whichever Android phone your have (standard doom and gloom rumours aside that we get with every version about phone X won't get the update and it inevitably does), you'll get Android 2.0 OTA when it's released in 2 or 3 months, or be able to install customised versions when people like Cyanogen add Google's 2.0 code to their own version.
