I recently purchased a mytouch and have been reading alot about rooting your phone. Cananyone tell me what this does? Ive read its like jailbreaking your ipod/iphone, is this true?how difficult is it to do? I jailbroke my ipod touch and it was fairly simple....any help would be greatly appreciated..

thank you muchly........but im not sure what you mean exactly with the psp reference. Wat are roms? Do you get free apps? Wat r sum of tha customization you can do? How easy is it to brick your fone? Thank you for your response, help etc.

sorry no free apps, rooting is more for customization purposes
like installing themes, using tethering apps, installing custom ROMs like the hero ROMs or the Cliq ROMs, installing apps2sd

depending on the rom you flash, there may or may not be "free" apps on them. also depends on what you define free. as in paid apps? yes, some rom developers do put paid apps on their roms, and you will get them for free if you flash those roms. My all technical terms, the google apps that you have come to be familiar with are not "free" either, those apps are free to use but you have to agree to google's licenses (why cyanogen was given a cease and desist order for distributing them without a license, they are proprietary applications.)
anyways, do your research, it's the best way you're goin to learn because the process can become complex and at first it'll be intimidating to sift through the loads of information on these forums. First place you should check out are the
xda-developers forums. They have the most resources on rooting flashing and whatever you'll need to modify your mytouch/android phone
