Been using G1 since day one, have had a mytouch also since it was released and I still won't trade my G1 for the mytouch. However, the sholes is a phone I would trade for my G1!

We've all seen the video of the SIM card version of the Sholes. I guess it's possible its using Tmo's frequencies. This phone will be out classed by time snap dragons start to drop anyway.

The Droid/Sholes hardware might be the best Android hardware going, but it's still a major disappointment. And it's butt-ugly to boot. But we might not have to wait for units with SnapDragons to outclass it. SnapDragon CPUs may not be any faster than, for example, the ARM Cortex-A8 already used by the iPhone 3GS, Palm Pre and Nokia N900. Mobile CPUs can't always be compared by MHz, it's not that simple.

Dont forget, the processor in the droid is the same Cortex-A8 as in all those phones you mentioned, so i dont know how the hardware is dissapointing =].

OK, you asked...just a few things, for example as compared to the N900: much poorer keyboard, lesser camera with no lens cover, no front camera, no infrared port, no TV out, no FM transmitter/tuner, no stereo speakers, and especially no 32G onboard storage, more I can't think of offhand. And SpongeBob Squarepants butt-ugly. I was VERY disappointed.

And most important, though not hardware-related, Android instead of Maemo. IOW, a Davlik VM riding on a Linux kernel vs a full-stack, root-enabled real Debian-based Linux distro with X, etc. etc. Android has been ok and I wish it well, but Maemo is the next generation of mobile OS. Suitable for real pocket computers, not just smartphones. My G1/Android is about to retire forever.

Im just going to go out and say that i Guarantee you android is going to be the next big thing, and that maemo is not going to get the carrier support that android devices will.
