Newbie question on G1?

Hi Folks,

I just bought my G1 on ebay lock under with T-mobile. I also have t-mobile but without the data plan. I werer able to borrow my co-worker t-mobile sim card that has data plan to register in with my g-mail account.

I had going in setting and turn on Wifi and disable data synch and roaming stuff. My question is that do i get extra charges using this G1 phone or my co-worker get charged because he let me use his card for setting up the phone? Also since i use his sim card does the information of the sim card implant in the phone so T-mobile can see it or it disappear when i insert my t-mobile sim card which has no data plan?

Lastly, when i when in setting and look under status of the phone i notice there is a In Use of which there is the timer which counting up ward similar like how long you phone is on? Can some one tell me what exactly what it's meant by that or i just already answer myself on that one.

Again thank you in advacne for your comments. If everything is well i'll probably will try to rooted this phone in the future.

One more thing since i were able to Enable wifi can i use it where Wifi is open?

Hi Thanks for reading my topics. I just started in the smart phone so i don't want to go over my head since i don't want a two year contract since i'm month to month. So i want to start it slow who know i might sell of this phone and upgrade in the future. But again if you can advices anything from my original post. Thanks.

So let me get this correct i could use my regular sim card to make regular call but i cant' surf the net without data plan unless i use wifi? Thanks in advance.

Don't listen to these ppl, You can use your phone without a data plan. This is the same thing Tmobile tryed to tell me. That I couldn't use the phone if I didn't have a data plan, Well I have prepaid and its not even a flex plan I buy Prepaid cards. Anyways I hooked my phone up and yes you can use Wifi as long as there is an open network around you. You can make calls, send text messages without a data plan you can send email, download ringtones and all paper and all that good stuff with the Wifi. you can even go into the market and get free apps if you so choose. I love my G1 and it seems like I learn something new everyday

Thanks theFran1996 and SexyScorpio for answering my question. I have another question maybe you guys can help. I try to turn on Bluetooth under setting but the green check icon will not turn on. Is there a way to turn it on or should i borrow my friends t-mobile sim card with data plan and activate the bluetooth option? Your comment much much appreciated.

Hmm I have never seemed to have this issue with my bluetooth. Have you tried goin into the wireless controls.. then going into your bluetooth settings and tryed to turn it on from there?? There is no reason why you should need to borrow your friends sim card since the data plan has nothing to do with the Bluetooth on the phone itself... Or you can try turning your bluetooth device on and then click on Scan for devices to see if your phone recognizes the device or not. Hope this helps if not just repost...
