I try turn on the bluetooth under setting and wireless and click on bluetooth. I noticed it said on but the the green check box does not turn on like if i were turn on my wifi? Is there anything i can do to resolve this?

Thanks in advance.

G1 here too, using standard firmware (1.6).

When I go to the Wireless controls in the settings menu, and press on the check box to turn Bluetooth on, immediately the menu entry goes grey and the text below it says "Turning on...". There's a wait of about 5 seconds, then the menu entry turns white again, and the check box has a green tick in it. Bluetooth is then on and the Bluetooth icon is displayed in the notification bar.

What does yours do?

Hi Extorian,

My G1 also firmware 1.6

When i press the bluetooth check box and it say "Turn On" after a wait of about 5 seconds, but the grey box stay grey without the green tick in it so there is no bluetooth on or icon in the notification bar.

I had call T-mobile customer service tech. he told me it's a hardware issue and since i bought my on Ebay there no warranty.

Oh by the way i did a hard reset and factory reset in hope for it to work.

Any ideas on your end?

Thanks in advance.

I have two ideas...

First, let's see if the phone is telling us why it can't turn BT on. If you go to the Market and search for "Log Collector", you will find two apps called that - a free on by Xtralogic and a paid one by two forty four a.m. The free one is better and provides more information, so download that. Then, try and turn BT on again. After it fails, run the Log Collector app, it'll pop up a window, press OK, it'll ask what application to use to send the log, click Google Mail, enter your own email address in the To box, press Send. You should then receive an email with the phone's log in it. If you scroll down that email (it'll be quite long) you'll notice that each line starts with a time and date. Scroll down to the bottom and copy and paste the last 5 minutes of log here and I can see if there's any errors that mean anything.

My second idea is this... The T-Mobile G1 was only realeased in the US on 22nd October 2008 and in the UK on 30th October 2008. So, unless the phone was originally purchased in the first two weeks of the phone being released (unlikely) it is still under the standard manufacturers 1 year warranty. T-Mobile is correct in that they are not responsible for a phone not purchased directly from them, but they don't make the phones, HTC does. Other people on this site have been able to contact HTC directly and have them fix it for them. Their website is http://www.htc.com/europe/CA_Hotline.aspx and there are two phone numbers at the bottom you could try for the UK - the Hotline number and the HTC Global Warranty Service number.

As it's just possible the phone is more than a year old, they may now require proof of purchase (i.e. a receipt) to prove the date. However, they may be able to tell by the serial number of the phone too - I just don't know, but it's worth seeing what they have to say.

Let's see what the log says first...

Thanks Extorian,

I went to Market and using wifi to download the free log collector. I notice after doing what you said i can see a whole bunch of info in the log and then i type in my google email account for it to sent to but i did not recieved it. Do you know why or because i have to have data plan to sent via google to it's g-mail or can i do it using wifi only?

The second option about HTC manufacturer, i sent an email regarding to the bluetooth problem and i'm waiting to see what their repsonse.

I will try to resent again once i get home from work since i don't have wifi access where i work.

I'll keep you posted.

Thanks,

Yeah you'll need some kind of data connection to send the email... either WiFi or the phone network (any type). Just so long as you have one.

You could try sending it to another email address?

Thanks Extorian,

I try to sent it to another email using wifi, it said sent but it still doesnt go through. I'm still waiting for a response from HTC and see what they can do but i have already bought a wire headset for this just incase nothing can be done for the bluetooth. I'll keep you posted.

Just wondering... can you send an email using your GMail app in general? That's all the Log Collector does really... So I'm thinking if you can send an email using the GMail app and receive it, then it's probably being filtered as spam or something like that. If you don't receive a message sent from your GMail app then something else is wrong somewhere.
